Texas Scholarships

Texas residents in Aransas, Bee, Goliad, Karnes, Kleberg, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, or Victoria counties who attended high school or were homeschooled in those counties and demonstrate challenging family circumstances, financial need, and academic success may apply. College or university awards reach up to $16,000. Trade or technical school awards reach up to $10,000. Applicants must attend accredited Texas institutions. The Dennis Henneke Foundation honors Dennis Henneke's spirit of mentoring and helping others pursue education despite hardship.

Undergraduate students in the greater Houston area, or graduates of a greater Houston high school, who are enrolled full time at an accredited two- or four-year college with a declared major in marketing, advertising, graphic arts, media, or a related field may apply with a minimum 3.0 GPA. AMA Houston awards one Penny Todd Scholarship of $5,000 annually. Submit the application with an essay of more than 750 words on career goals, at least two recommendations from non-family adults, proof of enrollment, an official transcript, and samples of marketing coursework.

Minority graduating high school seniors from the Dallas/Fort Worth area pursuing transportation-related careers may apply for COMTO North Texas scholarships. Five awards are granted annually with amounts up to $5,000. Funds may cover tuition, fees, books, and room and board. Eligible fields include engineering, business, logistics, urban planning, and other transportation-related studies. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents with a minimum 2.5 GPA. College students are not eligible. COMTO North Texas supports minorities building careers in the transportation industry.

First-generation graduate students who are permanent residents of California, Illinois, New York, or Texas and demonstrate financial need may apply for the David C. Lizárraga Fellowship from the TELACU Education Foundation, sponsored by Toyota. Priority goes to full-time Business or Engineering majors enrolled for the full academic year, though other graduate fields may be considered. Fellowships are $5,000. The number of recipients varies. Complete the online application with transcripts and financial documentation. Selected applicants participate in an interview evaluated on leadership, achievement, community commitment, and need. The fellowship supports students committed to economic empowerment in underserved communities.

Pell Grant-eligible Hispanic high school seniors in Hidalgo, Cameron, or Starr County, Texas with at least a 2.75 GPA who plan full-time enrollment at an accredited four-year university may apply for the HSF/VAMOS Scholarship through the HSF portal. Selected students receive up to $5,000 per year for four years, up to $20,000 total. Students attending UTRGV may receive up to $3,000 per year. Complete the FAFSA and submit the VAMOS application with all required documents by February 22.

Texas or Oklahoma residents accepted to or enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate technology-related degree program with a minimum 3.0 GPA may apply for Centre Technologies' Kathy Pace Technology Scholarship. One $5,000 award is given annually. Funds may be used for tuition and other school-related expenses. Submit two recommendations, a transcript, a degree plan, and an 800-word essay. The scholarship honors Kathy Pace and her belief in combining compassion with technology to strengthen communities.

Texas high school seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA who plan to enroll in a Texas university, college, or trade school for a two- or four-year degree may apply for the Jon Yi Education Scholarship. One non-renewable $1,000 award is given based on financial need, academics, leadership, and community involvement. Submit the application essay by July 24. Jon Yi, a Texas A&M graduate who received seven scholarships during his education, created this fund to give back and support Texas students pursuing postsecondary education.

Young women in Texas may apply for scholarships through Diamonds in the Rough Ministry, which offers separate programs for high school seniors and current college undergraduates. Award amounts vary. High school applicants need at least a 2.5 GPA and proof of college enrollment if selected. Undergraduate applicants must be currently enrolled, hold at least a 2.5 GPA, and not yet hold a four-year degree. Each program has its own Google Forms application. All applicants submit an official transcript, lists of awards, work and volunteer experience, a recommendation letter, and a personal statement.

High school seniors from Lubbock County, Texas, who plan to attend Texas Tech University may apply for the George Scott Jr. Memorial Scholarship through the Community Foundation of West Texas. Preference is given to African American students. Award amounts vary. Scholarship funds are paid directly to Texas Tech University and may be used for tuition, fees, and books. Applicants complete and submit the foundation scholarship application with required supporting documents. The scholarship was established by Kent Hance in memory of his friend George Scott Jr.

U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are high school seniors or college freshmen or sophomores under age 20 and residing in eligible states or the District of Columbia may apply. Applicants need a minimum 3.0 GPA (high school seniors) or 2.75 GPA (college students), plus demonstrated academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and financial need. Award amounts vary based on need and may renew for up to four academic years. Complete the application with details on honors, leadership, community service, financial need, and future goals. Funds must be used at an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Student-athletes in intercollegiate sports and exclusively online students are ineligible. The Jimmy Rane Foundation has awarded hundreds of scholarships to help deserving students pursue college educations.
