Utah Scholarships

Incoming first-year and transfer students from WUE-eligible Western states who are admitted to the University of New Mexico are automatically considered for the Western Undergraduate Exchange Plus program. Eligible students need a 3.0 GPA or 20 ACT (1030 SAT). WUE Plus reduces non-resident tuition to the New Mexico resident rate, with a value of up to $23,149 per year. The award is renewable for up to four years with 15 credits and a 2.5 GPA each fall and spring semester. No separate scholarship application is required, but applying by your admission deadline improves consideration.

Automatic WUE nursing award for incoming nonresident first-year students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents from a participating WUE state or territory, hold an unweighted GPA of 3.90 to 4.00, and are Pre-Nursing or Nursing majors. The scholarship covers 150% of resident tuition, saving about $16,339 per year for up to four years with full-time enrollment and a 3.00 renewal GPA. Construction Management, Radiological Science, alternative fee, and fully online majors are ineligible. Admission files must be complete by December 15 for fall.

Graduating high school seniors who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents of Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, Utah, or select California counties may apply for the Greenhouse Scholars Whole Person College Program. Applicants need a 3.5+ unweighted GPA and household income at or below $80,000. Up to 37 scholars receive up to $5,000 per academic year in last-dollar tuition support over five undergraduate years, plus mentorship, professional networking, leadership training, internship support, flex funding grants, and community projects. Part 1 requires a short answer response; eligible applicants are invited to Part 2 with transcripts, test scores, two recommendations, four written responses, a five-minute video, and proof of income. Finalists attend in-person interviews. Semi-finalists and finalists complete a multi-stage application process.

Professional Utah artists who are state residents with at least two years of residency and a U.S. tax identification number may apply when their discipline category is open. Individuals enrolled in any degree-granting program are ineligible. The fellowship targets artists at pivotal career moments, not those just beginning their careers or seeking lifetime-achievement recognition. Eighteen unrestricted $5,000 fellowships are awarded across Literary Arts (five), Performing Arts (five, music in 2026/2027), and Visual Arts and Design Arts (eight). Fellows are selected by out-of-state jurors reviewing narratives and five years of work samples. Applications typically open in January and close in early March each year. The 2026 cycle is closed with fellows announced; the next cycle is expected January 2027. Utah Division of Arts and Museums is the state cultural agency administering these competitive merit fellowships.

Greenhouse Scholars provides an annual scholarship award of up to $5,000 plus comprehensive support, including one-on-one mentorship, professional networking, internship support, and an annual Summer Symposium. Once accepted, Scholars do not reapply each year. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors planning to attend a four-year accredited institution; be US citizens or permanent residents and legal residents of Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, or Utah (select Southern California counties are also served); have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above; and demonstrate financial need with annual household income no greater than $80,000. The multi-round application includes short answers, an essay, two recommendations, a video response, financial information, and an interview. Round 2 closed December 3 in the most recent cycle.

The Utah Academic Scholarship is a merit award for Utah resident first-year, first-time students at the University of Utah. Selection is based on cumulative high school GPA and course rigor, with no separate scholarship application beyond the admission application due by December 1. Recipients receive $5,000 per academic year toward tuition and mandatory fees while enrolled full-time on the main campus. The scholarship renews for up to eight semesters when students maintain a 3.50 cumulative GPA, remain in good standing, and complete at least 24 credit hours during each academic year.

The Utah Resident Transfer Merit Scholarship Tier 1 supports Utah resident transfer students entering the University of Utah with a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.80 or higher and an earned associate degree or at least 30 completed credit hours at the time of application. No separate scholarship application is required beyond the transfer admission application due by February 1. Recipients receive $5,000 per academic year toward tuition and mandatory fees while enrolled full-time on the main campus. The award renews for up to four semesters when students maintain a 3.50 cumulative GPA and complete at least 24 credit hours each academic year.

Single mothers who are Utah residents with physical custody of dependent children, a high school diploma or GED, completed FAFSA, and demonstrated financial need may apply for Live Your Dream Foundation scholarships. You may attend college online in another state while remaining a Utah resident. Awards range from $500 to $3,000 and cover tuition, fees, and books at any accredited college, university, technical school, or bootcamp, including graduate programs. Complete the online application through the foundation's portal. No minimum GPA, major, or citizenship requirement applies.

The Utah Direct Scholarship supports Utah resident first-year, first-time students who earned a Utah Direct admission guarantee through participating high school districts and had at least a 3.5 unweighted GPA at the end of junior year. Eligible applicants must complete their University of Utah admission application by December 1 and enroll for the Fall 2026 semester. Recipients receive $3,000 per academic year toward tuition and mandatory fees while enrolled full-time on the main campus. The award renews for up to eight semesters with a 3.50 cumulative GPA and at least 24 credit hours completed each academic year.

The Utah Resident Transfer Merit Scholarship Tier 2 is for Utah resident transfer students with a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.50 to 3.79 who hold an earned associate degree or at least 30 completed credit hours when they apply to the University of Utah. Applicants must complete the transfer admission process by February 1 with no additional scholarship form required. Recipients receive $3,000 per academic year applied to tuition and mandatory fees while enrolled in at least 12 credit hours. The scholarship renews for up to four semesters with a 3.50 cumulative GPA and at least 24 credit hours completed each academic year.
