How OSAP funding works
OSAP bundles federal and Ontario aid into one application. The grant layer is driven by the Canada Student Grant: up to $525 for each month of full-time study if your family income is under the threshold for your family size, phasing out gradually above it. Students with kids can add $280 per dependant per month. On top of the grants, repayable student loans fill the gap up to OSAP's weekly maximums.

Common questions
How much OSAP can I get?
For 2026-27, full-time students at public or OSAP-approved schools can receive up to $530 per week of study ($875 if you're married, common-law, or a sole-support parent). A standard 34-week school year works out to roughly $18,000 and $29,750 respectively, combining grants and loans.
How much of OSAP is grants vs. loans?
It depends on your family income. The Canada Student Grant pays up to $4,200 a year ($525 per month of study) if your family income is below the threshold for your family size, phasing out above it. The rest of your funding comes as repayable student loans.
Is OSAP based on my parents' income?
Yes, if you're a dependent student. Parental income above a moderate standard of living reduces your assessed need, which mainly shrinks the loan portion. This calculator doesn't model that contribution, so treat the loan figure as an upper bound and use the official OSAP Aid Estimator for a personalized number.
Do I have to pay back OSAP grants?
No. Grants are yours to keep as long as you stay enrolled full-time for your study period. If you withdraw early, some grant money can be converted to loan.
What if I'm not in Ontario?
Every province integrates the same federal grants into its own program: StudentAid BC, Alberta Student Aid, and so on (Quebec, NWT, and Nunavut run separate systems). The Canada Student Grant portion of this estimate applies across the integrated provinces.
