Scholarships for Veterans & Military Families

U.S. military veterans with honorable discharge documentation who are enrolled in formal training or licensing programs may apply for the RERF Veteran Stipend from the Recycling Education and Research Foundation. Programs are not limited to recycling or university study. One stipend of $2,500 is paid directly to the recipient for living and non-tuition expenses. Submit the online application with three 500-word essays, a resume, two recommendations, proof of enrollment, and a redacted DD-214. Applications may be sent by email or mail.

Incoming Indiana State University freshmen who are dependent children of an ISU graduate and have at least a 3.0 high school GPA may receive this award. The scholarship provides $100 per year credited to the ISU bookstore for textbooks. It is renewable for up to four years with full-time enrollment and good standing. Indicate child-of-alumni status on the admissions application by June 1; no separate scholarship application is described.

Military dependents ages 13 to 18 who demonstrate scholarship, volunteerism, leadership, and extracurricular involvement may be nominated for Operation Homefront's Military Child of the Year Award. Legal dependent status is confirmed through DEERS enrollment. Seven recipients are selected annually, one per service branch, each receiving $10,000, a laptop, and travel to the recognition gala in Washington, D.C. Gather academic records, volunteer details, and recommendation letters, then submit through the official platform. Previous award recipients are not eligible.

The Out-of-State or International Grant provides $2,000 to incoming first-year undergraduates who live in a U.S. state other than Michigan or who reside outside the United States when they enroll at Calvin University. It is part of the Knight Promise financial aid guarantee and is awarded automatically at enrollment with no separate application. The grant renews for up to five years while you maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress as a full-time Calvin undergraduate student.

U.S. citizens attending an accredited U.S. college or university who served in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Space Force, or Reserves, or who are the spouse, widow, child, or stepchild of a U.S. veteran, may apply for one $2,000 Boyk Law Veteran Scholarship. Submit a resume, transcript, and 750-1,000 word essay addressing at least two of the sponsor's prompts. The winner is announced on Veterans Day, and the check is sent to the student's school.

Illinois residents who served at least one year of honorable federal active-duty service, served in a foreign country during hostilities and were honorably discharged, or are honorably serving may apply once through ISAC for the Illinois Veteran Grant. IVG covers eligible tuition and mandatory fees at Illinois public colleges and community colleges for up to four academic years of full-time enrollment. Award amounts vary based on remaining eligible costs. As an entitlement program, eligible recipients receive their awards regardless of annual state appropriations. Illinois public two- and four-year colleges must waive any eligible tuition and fees not covered by state funding.

The Alumni Child Scholarship, listed as the Alumni Scholarship on Grand View's financial aid site, provides one thousand dollars per year for four years to new full-time day first-year or transfer students whose parent or parents earned an associate, bachelor's, or master's degree from Grand View University. This award replaces the Viking Alumni Referral Scholarship for children of alumni. Students must enroll as undergraduate full-time day students at Grand View. The scholarship is automatically applied based on parent alumni status reported during the admission process and renews with continued full-time enrollment and satisfactory academic progress.

The Veteran Student Success Scholarship Fund provides $500 awards to military veteran students enrolled at San Jacinto College. Recipients must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours for the semester awarded and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Applicants answer a supplemental question confirming veteran status through the San Jacinto College Scholarship Site after completing the general scholarship application. The fall and annual application cycle opens February 15 with a priority date of April 15 and a deadline of July 30; spring applications close October 30.

The Dr. Link Larson Veteran's Scholarship is funded by Dr. Link Larson's annual gift to NWHSU's Veterans Scholarship Fund in honor of his father, Eugene Gordon Larson, a Navy pilot during World War II. The scholarship supports current and former U.S. military veterans studying at Northwestern Health Sciences University through the competitive donor scholarship application process each term. NWHSU evaluates applicants based on eligibility, essays, and available veteran-focused donor funds for the start term. Recipients are limited to one donor scholarship per term, and total institutional scholarships plus tuition remission cannot exceed one hundred percent of tuition.

The Ken MAC McHugh Veteran Appreciation Scholarship was established in 2019 by Donna McHugh to support veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces and Coast Guard who attend Trident Technical College. It assists students enrolled in an occupational associate degree program and is awarded through the TTC Foundation's single annual scholarship application on my.tridenttech.edu. Applicants must maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and enroll in at least six credit hours per semester in a degree, certificate, or diploma program. The foundation evaluates applications against donor criteria that may include financial need, program of study, and optional essay responses. Veterans should complete the FAFSA if they wish to be considered for need-based matching. Recipients are notified by TTC student email in early August.
