Scholarships for Single Parents

The SCTCC Single Parent Scholarship supports students at St. Cloud Technical and Community College who are raising children while pursuing a certificate, diploma, or degree. It is administered through the SCTCC Foundation alongside more than one hundred institutional awards using one scholarship application. Applicants must be high school graduates or GED completers admitted to SCTCC, enroll in at least nine credits unless donor guidelines differ, and submit the online application by the published deadline. Selection considers how applicants answer two essay questions about career goals. Continuing students must complete nine credits and maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA to remain eligible for renewal consideration.

Single parents who are U.S. citizens, legal residents, or DACA recipients living in Arkansas or Bowie County, Texas (excluding certain counties with local programs) may apply for semester scholarships through the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund online portal. Applicants need a high school diploma or GED, no bachelor's degree, at least a 2.0 GPA, household income at or below 250% of federal poverty guidelines, and at least 3 college credits. Award amounts vary. Fall applications open August 1 and close September 1.

Single parents or children of single-parent households who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents pursuing paralegal, legal assistant, or pre-law studies at an accredited U.S. college, university, or law school may apply. A minimum 2.0 GPA is required. One $1,000 award is given. Submit proof of enrollment and a 500 to 1,000 word essay on how being in a single-parent household shaped your goals.

Requires a 500–1,000 word essay on challenges of being a student and single parent and how the award would help their family's future. Single-parent graduate students officially admitted to a BYU Marriott School program who have custody of one or more dependent children may apply for need-based support through Women's Services and Resources. Award amounts vary. Students must remain in good academic standing and are reevaluated yearly; recipients who marry are no longer eligible. Submit the WSR application with a personal statement explaining your situation. Scholarships are funded by donations from the National Advisory Council Spouse Association to help single-parent Marriott School students with educational expenses.

The Carolyn Jean McNair Daniel Scholarship is a CCCC Foundation endowed award for single-parent students, listed in the foundation's Single Parents category alongside other family-support memorial funds. Central Carolina Community College students apply through the general foundation scholarship application, and the committee matches single-parent applicants to eligible endowed scholarships including this fund. Awards help cover tuition and education-related expenses for curriculum students demonstrating need or merit according to donor preferences. Recipients must submit a thank-you letter to their donor and attend the annual scholarship luncheon or the award is removed from their student account.

Single Parent and Displaced Homemaker Hardship Funds provide short-term financial assistance to Center for New Directions students at the College of Southern Idaho who face unexpected emergencies that could force them to leave school. The Center supports single parents, displaced homemakers, and career pioneers in non-traditional fields with advising, workshops, and referrals before hardship funds are considered. CND-eligible students apply through the Center when sudden expenses threaten enrollment, and staff review requests based on documented need tied to CND participation. Single parents who are residents of Benton, Carroll, Madison, or Washington County, Arkansas and are pursuing a diploma, associate, bachelor's, graduate degree, or cosmetology licensure at an approved partner school may apply. Awards of up to $2,500 per semester vary by enrollment status: $2,500 full-time, $1,875 three-quarter-time, or $1,250 part-time. Apply through Submittable by the semester deadline; recipients must reapply each term. Applicants need a high school diploma or GED, a 2.0+ GPA, low to moderate income, and a completed FAFSA.

For single mothers enrolled in U.S. undergraduate or community college programs or law school with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Awards of $1,000 are available. Submit a 500-word or longer essay as part of the application.

Applicants write a 500–700 word essay on hardships faced while pursuing higher education as a single mom and upload a photo with their child or children. Apply on Bold.org.
