Study Abroad Scholarships

The Study Abroad Grant helps Principia College students cover study abroad costs not met by existing financial aid, including administrative fees, flights up to fifteen hundred dollars, room and board, and documented opportunity costs from missed work. Students receiving Principia need-based grants, as well as post-graduate study abroad participants, may apply during the study abroad program application cycle. Preference goes to first-time abroad participants with demonstrated need and a preferred GPA of 3.0.

The Study Abroad Scholarship is an internal Stevens award for enrolled undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who participate in approved study abroad programs. Students must have a FAFSA on file with Stevens to qualify, and eligibility varies by program and individual financial circumstances. The scholarship helps offset the additional costs of studying overseas including travel and living expenses beyond standard tuition. Stevens institutional aid may be used for specific exchange partner programs, and students should contact the Office of Financial Aid at finaid@stevens.edu to confirm aid applicability for their chosen abroad program before committing.

Study abroad scholarship for first-generation Baylor undergraduates participating in the First Abroad Fellows program. Fellows receive a $3,000 award held in reserve and applied to the student account for the term abroad, assistance finding a degree-aligned program among nearly 100 Baylor study abroad options, passport resources, and semester advising. Participants must remain in good academic standing, generally meeting the 2.5 GPA threshold common to Baylor study abroad programs, and meet regularly with study abroad advisors.

The Ridgway F. Shinn Jr. Study Abroad Fund provides financial support to Rhode Island College undergraduates for planned study outside the United States lasting at least twelve weeks. Any undergraduate in any major may apply regardless of destination country. Applicants must be in good academic standing, submit a quality proposal and clear budget plan, and plan to return to RIC for at least one semester after the abroad experience. Applications are due February 15 annually and are reviewed by a seven-member awards committee including a recently returned Shinn Scholar.

The Miller Study Abroad Scholarship at Manchester University aids full-time undergraduates planning to study abroad for a year, semester, or January Session. Ed and Martha Miller established the fund for students interested in international cultures. Any enrolled Manchester undergraduate may apply during the annual February study-away scholarship cycle, with preference for students majoring in the natural and health sciences. Awards typically range from five hundred to fifteen hundred dollars and are paid in addition to a student's regular financial aid package beginning July 1 of the award year.

The Study Abroad Endowed Scholarship helps Lewis-Clark State College students fund foreign language study abroad programs approved through LC State International Programs. Created in 1993 by Humanities Division faculty, the award supports students with sophomore standing, a minimum 2.75 GPA, and at least one year of college-level instruction in the target language, with preference for two or more years completed. Funds offset program expenses for languages offered at LC State. Spring and summer applicants submit materials by the last business day in October; fall applicants by the last business day in March using the General Study Away Scholarship Application.

Wentworth Study Abroad Scholarships support UF Honors Program members participating in any UF-approved study abroad program. Preference goes to Honors students on Honors-affiliated programs, those studying outside Western Europe, and first- or second-year Honors students who have not previously traveled abroad. Recipients must have a 3.5 UF GPA and must not complete their undergraduate degree before the end of the study abroad term. Applications are available in Scholarship Universe with deadlines of November 1 and March 1 annually depending on program term.

College of Saint Mary students planning to study abroad for a semester may apply for the CSM Study Abroad Scholarship. Recipients receive two thousand five hundred dollars for each semester abroad, up to a maximum of two semesters. By accepting the award, students agree to share their experience with the CSM community through a paper, presentation, blog, or similar activity supervised by Academic and Student Affairs by the end of the semester following their abroad term. Institutional scholarships and grants are suspended during study abroad, making this dedicated award important for semester-long international study.

The Trine Study Abroad Scholarship provides up to $5,000 to full-time, degree-seeking undergraduates who participate in Trine's study abroad programs and currently receive an academic merit scholarship from the university. Applicants must maintain a minimum 3.0 Trine cumulative GPA, complete required financial aid forms including the FAFSA, obtain proof of acceptance into an approved study abroad program, and submit the Study Abroad Scholarship Application with a two-page personal statement and a sealed academic reference from a current Trine faculty member. Fall semester applications are due June 1 and spring semester applications are due October 1. Merit scholarships are not transferable to study abroad, so this dedicated award helps cover program costs processed through the Trine Business Office.

Stephens Study Abroad Scholarships are awarded by the Study Abroad Committee to enrolled Stephens College undergraduates for the semester or semesters they study abroad. Amounts vary based on program cost and available funding, and awards apply only during the abroad term rather than as a standing annual scholarship. Students must apply through the Stephens College Study Abroad application process and meet good academic standing and campus citizenship requirements outlined in the catalog. Planning typically begins at least one year in advance with the study abroad coordinator and academic advisor to ensure credits and funding align with degree progress.
