Graduate School Scholarships

U.S. pre-doctoral art history candidates who will be all-but-dissertation when the fellowship begins and whose dissertation research focuses on European art from antiquity to the early 19th century may be nominated by their department for Kress History of Art Institutional Fellowships at European research centers. Departments may nominate a maximum of two candidates for different research centers. Six two-year fellowships are awarded at $45,000 per year. Applications are accepted in November for fellowships beginning the following academic year.

Australian, Indigenous Australian, American, and Indigenous American students pursuing full-time graduate study (master's, Ph.D., or postdoctoral research) at an accredited institution in the other country may apply through the Graduate Education Fund. Awards up to $40,000 for one year may cover tuition, travel, living expenses, and related costs. Programs must have at least one year remaining. Two application rounds run annually: Australia to USA (January 1 through March 31) and USA to Australia (August 1 through September 30). Finalists may interview.

Honorably discharged post-9/11 American and Australian veterans undertaking or planning full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited institution may apply for cross-Pacific study in either the USA-to-Australia or Australia-to-USA direction, in any disciplinary field. The Veterans Fund provides up to $40,000 for tuition, travel, and other educational expenses. Funding may be combined with other veteran support programs such as the GI Bill. Submit a completed application with academic transcripts, a resume, budget, passport copy, university acceptance letter, a short introductory video, and three referee contacts for letters of recommendation.

New Ph.D. students accepted into Saint Louis University School of Medicine's Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Graduate Program may compete for this scholarship. One Ph.D. core student and one M.D./Ph.D. student are selected annually. Indicate interest when you apply to the Biomedical Sciences program. Recipients receive a $35,000 yearly stipend plus tuition and health insurance. Coverage lasts three years for Ph.D. core students and one year for M.D./Ph.D. students. Candidates apply and are accepted as classified degree-seeking students in the program. M.D./Ph.D. students may apply at the start of Ph.D. years with a biochemistry faculty mentor. The scholarship honors Abdul Waheed and supports competitive trainees in biomedical sciences.

Underrepresented and underserved Ph.D. or Th.D. students in religion, theological studies, or biblical studies who have completed coursework and are at the dissertation stage may apply for FTE doctoral dissertation fellowships from the Forum for Theological Exploration. One-year fellowships provide up to $35,000. Fellows must be enrolled full time at an accredited U.S. or Canadian institution and pursuing a teaching and scholarship vocation in North America. Applications open in January and are due February 16. Submit the FTE application with CV, research abstract, transcripts, and faculty recommendations.

Veterinary students in year two or later at an AVMA-accredited program with at least a 3.0 GPA who commit to at least three years of animal welfare work after graduation may apply. Scholarships of up to $33,333 per year, with a maximum total of $100,000, may be renewable. Funds cover tuition, fees, books, supplies, and required equipment. Submit the online application with essays, academic and service information, and FAFSA demonstrating financial need by the March deadline.

Late-stage Ph.D. candidates in the humanities and social sciences at accredited U.S. graduate schools whose dissertation addresses religious, ethical, or moral questions may apply for Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships. Twenty fellows each receive a $31,000 stipend for 12 months of full-time dissertation writing. Applicants must have completed coursework, passed preliminary exams, received dissertation proposal approval, and be actively writing their dissertation by the application deadline. Professional degrees such as D.Min., law, Psy.D., and Ed.D. are not eligible.

Doctoral students in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico pursuing advanced training and research in water supply and treatment may apply for the Abel Wolman Fellowship from the American Water Works Association. One fellowship of $30,000 is awarded annually, with a second year of support available if needed. Applicants' work should show vision, creativity, and excellence with recognizable impact on the water industry. AWWA membership is not required. Submit a resume, one-page personal statement, three- to five-page research proposal, curriculum requirements, and a recent transcript. Established in 1984, the fellowship honors Dr. Abel Wolman and supports meaningful doctoral research in water supply.

Full-time graduate students preparing for a career in state or local government finance may apply for the Goldberg-Miller Public Finance Scholarship through the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). Study should relate to public administration, finance, accounting, public policy, economics, or a similar field, and applicants should show strong interest in public-sector work. One recipient receives a $30,000 scholarship. Previous winners are ineligible. Submit the GFOA application with a letter of recommendation from someone who can speak to your commitment to public service, along with transcripts and other required materials.

U.S. citizens or permanent residents who identify as women and are in the final year of dissertation work for a Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent research doctorate may apply. You must have completed coursework, passed preliminary exams, and received research proposal approval. The fellowship provides $25,000 for one year of full-time dissertation completion. The number of recipients varies. Apply by the posted deadline. Selection weighs scholarly excellence, project quality, and commitment to women and girls through service or research.
