BAEF Fellowships for Americans

US citizens or permanent residents may apply for 12-month study or research at a Belgian university or research institution. Eligible paths include enrolling in a Belgian graduate programme, conducting degree-relevant research while enrolled at a US graduate programme, or postdoctoral research within two years of the PhD.

Awards carry a $32,000 stipend for master's or PhD fellows and $35,000 for postdoctoral fellows, plus group health insurance in Belgium. Minimum stay is six months; fellows must reside in Belgium during the award.

Applications for 2027-2028 are due as PDF email attachments by 31 October 2026 to emile.boulpaep@yale.edu. Fellowships may begin between 1 July 2027 and 3 January 2028.
