About this scholarship
New Ph.D. students accepted into Saint Louis University School of Medicine's Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Graduate Program may compete for this scholarship. One Ph.D. core student and one M.D./Ph.D. student are selected annually. Indicate interest when you apply to the Biomedical Sciences program.
Recipients receive a $35,000 yearly stipend plus tuition and health insurance. Coverage lasts three years for Ph.D. core students and one year for M.D./Ph.D. students.
Candidates apply and are accepted as classified degree-seeking students in the program. M.D./Ph.D. students may apply at the start of Ph.D. years with a biochemistry faculty mentor.
The scholarship honors Abdul Waheed and supports competitive trainees in biomedical sciences.

- Three-to-five-page evaluation/review of a recent research publication
- Apply and be accepted to Saint Louis University as a degree-seeking student in the biomedical sciences core graduate program as a new Ph.D. student
- Complete the SLU graduate school application and the biomedical sciences program supplemental application
- Indicate interest in the Abdul Waheed Scholarship at time of application
- Submit personal statement and publication evaluation directly to LaChina McCoy (lachina.mccoy@health.slu.edu)
- Complete application process by February 1 for fall start of the same year
- Publication evaluation must address: the research problem/goal, a brief critical explanation of experiments performed, strengths and weaknesses of the experimental data, significance of the findings/c
- Indicate interest in the Abdul Waheed Scholarship when applying to the Biomedical Sciences program.
- The annual award covers three years for Ph.D. core students and one year for M.D./Ph.D. students.
