Virginia Scholarships

African American residents of Hampton Roads, Virginia with at least a 3.0 GPA who are committed to pursuing a STEM degree may apply for the African American Leadership Society STEM Scholarship administered by United Way of South Hampton Roads. Eligible applicants include high school seniors, currently enrolled college students, and qualifying veterans entering college. Scholarships are worth up to $10,000 toward tuition. The number of awards varies. Women account for at least 50% of recipients, and 25% of awards are designated for first-generation college students. Complete the online STEM application with required materials. Applicants must plan to enroll as a college student majoring in a STEM field. AALS aims to build a pipeline of Black STEM leaders and reduce racial and gender gaps in STEM fields across South Hampton Roads.

Full-time or part-time students enrolled in an approved Virginia teacher education program who plan to teach in a critical shortage area may be nominated for the Virginia Teaching Scholarship Loan Program. Candidates need a cumulative 2.7 GPA. Current paraprofessionals are also eligible. Awards of up to $10,000 per academic year are prorated for part-time enrollment. Selected recipients sign a promissory note with service-based forgiveness. Nominees apply through their institution's authorized designee. The Virginia Department of Education notifies selected students.

U.S. citizens pursuing campus-based study in the 2027-2028 academic year may apply to one or more stand-alone UNICO Foundation scholarships if they meet each fund's criteria. Most require Italian descent; several funds are open to all ethnicities. Award sizes vary by named fund, from about $1,000 to $10,000, covering high school seniors, undergraduates, graduate entrants, nursing, medical school, study abroad in Italy, and field-specific awards. Online applications are due March 15, 2027 for the 2027-2028 academic year. Applicants generally must reside in or hold chapter sponsorship from listed states (California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, or Wisconsin), with limited exceptions. UNICO National is an Italian-American service organization whose foundation promotes education, culture, and charitable projects nationwide.

Virginia residents who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and have lived in Virginia for at least 12 consecutive months may apply for VMFA Visual Arts Fellowships in professional, graduate, undergraduate, or half-year categories. Award amounts vary by category: $8,000 for professional fellows, $6,000 for graduate, $4,000 for undergraduate, and $2,000 to $3,000 for half-year awards. High school seniors, undergraduates, graduate students, and professional artists each have distinct eligibility rules. Submit work samples, a resume or CV, an artist statement, and other required materials through the online application. There is no application fee.

The VCCS Transfer Scholarship helps Virginia Community College System transfer students offset tuition and fees at VCU. Applicants must have earned at least 45 semester credit hours at a Virginia community college and submit VCU's online transfer application by March 15 to be considered. The scholarship covers tuition and fees up to $8,000 per year, with a maximum of $4,000 per semester. A limited number of awards are available each cycle, and students who attended institutions other than Virginia community colleges are not eligible.

Virginia residents age 26 or younger who are U.S. citizens, demonstrate financial need, and are dependents of a worker killed, seriously injured, or debilitated in a work-related incident may apply for Kids' Chance of Virginia scholarships. Full-time and part-time students at colleges, universities, or technical schools may apply. Most awards are up to $7,000 per year for four-year undergraduate or graduate programs and up to $5,500 per year for trade or two-year programs. Scholarships are renewable annually. Submit the application with a transcript, FAFSA Student Aid Report, injury documentation, and a brief career goals statement.

Undergraduate students with at least one year of college completed, or graduate students, at accredited U.S. institutions whose daily lives are guided by spiritual values may apply. Preference goes to candidates residing in or attending schools in Connecticut, DC, Delaware, Maryland, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $7,000 and may be renewed for subsequent years. Apply with three autobiographical essays, three letters of recommendation, an official transcript, and an in-person interview. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need. Albert and Toni Roothbert established the Fund to support students whose actions reflect strong moral and spiritual values.

Nursing-specific endowed scholarship for female Belmont BSN students with demonstrated financial need who are permanent residents of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia. Students admitted to the College of Nursing are automatically considered when they apply for first-year admission by December 1 or transfer admission by February 1. Awards range from $2,000 to $7,000 based on GPA, class rank, and community involvement. No separate nursing scholarship application is required beyond admission to the nursing major.

F.H. Furr and Monumental Honor award one $5,000 scholarship honoring Medal of Honor recipient James Mifflin to a Virginia student pursuing HVAC, plumbing, electrical, welding, construction, manufacturing, or another skilled trade or continuing-education program. Applicants email a completed application PDF with resume, 750–1,500 word personal essay, and two recommendation letters between August 1 and October 19, 2026. Funds may cover tuition, tools, books, and certifications.

The Pamplin Leadership Award is a one-year, $5,000 merit scholarship presented annually to up to 40 qualified students from Virginia public high schools who apply to Virginia Tech. Each public high school may nominate one applicant through its guidance office; nominees need at least a 3.8 cumulative GPA and must agree to join the Honors College and pursue an Honors Laureate Diploma. The award is open to any major and has no connection to the Pamplin College of Business. Winners apply through Scholarship Central and are notified by the Honors College.
