About this scholarship
Texas residents in grades 8 through 11 (or homeschooled students at a comparable level) may apply for competitive grants to advance study in dance, theatre, literary arts, media, film, music, or visual arts. Applicants must participate in a school-based arts program, summer institute, specialized coursework, or private lessons with a qualified instructor and maintain passing grades in all academic areas. This is not a college scholarship; it supports pre-college artistic development.
Selected Young Masters receive grants of up to $5,000 per year for up to two years, but not beyond the senior year of high school. Recipients must reapply each year. Funds help cover study costs in the student's chosen discipline.
Applications are submitted every other year by the student, parent or guardian, and arts instructor. The deadline is November 1 of odd-numbered years, with attachments due the same day.
The program is administered by the Texas Commission on the Arts with support from the Texas Cultural Trust to invest in young artists across the state.
