Maryland Scholarships

Maryland residents pursuing a postsecondary credential full-time or part-time at an eligible Maryland two-year or four-year college, university, or private career school may apply for a Senatorial Scholarship through their local state senator. Award amounts vary. Scholarships are open to undergraduate and graduate students, including undocumented students eligible for in-state tuition, and may cover certificate or licensure programs at community colleges. Contact your state senator for application instructions and deadlines. Complete the FAFSA or the Maryland Higher Education Commission One-App if ineligible for federal aid but eligible for in-state tuition, and submit required materials to your senator's office. Recipients may use the award at an out-of-state school if their major is not offered at any Maryland institution and their legislator agrees.

Need-based undergraduate scholarship for new University of Baltimore transfer and first-year students who have completed at least 24 college-level credits with a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and demonstrate financial need through the FAFSA. Award amounts range from $400 per year up to full in-state tuition and fees and are renewable for up to eight semesters with continuous enrollment, annual FAFSA filing, and a 2.0 GPA. Students must enroll at least half-time, pursue their first bachelor's degree, and qualify for Maryland in-state tuition. No separate scholarship application is required beyond admission and FAFSA submission; priority consideration is given to admission applications completed before June 1 for fall entry.

Institutional scholarship for Pell Grant-eligible new undergraduate transfer students and military or veteran students completing their first bachelor's degree at the University of Baltimore. The fund pays the remaining balance of in-state tuition and fees after the student's Pell Grant is applied, which can cover the full gap between federal aid and UBalt charges. Recipients must hold an associate degree or qualify under the military waiver with at least 60 earned credits, enroll at least half-time, meet Maryland in-state tuition requirements, and file the FAFSA. No separate application is required; eligibility is determined automatically from financial aid and admission records.

Transfer scholarship for incoming University of Baltimore undergraduates entering the College of Public Affairs with at least 60 earned credits and a 3.5 cumulative transfer GPA. The award covers 100 percent of in-state tuition and is renewable for four full-time semesters while the recipient maintains a 3.25 GPA. It cannot be combined with other UBalt institutional scholarships. Applicants must submit a separate application with a short essay, two letters of reference, and transcripts to the Office of Financial Aid. Undergraduate students with at least one year of college completed, or graduate students, at accredited U.S. institutions whose daily lives are guided by spiritual values may apply. Preference goes to candidates residing in or attending schools in Connecticut, DC, Delaware, Maryland, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $7,000 and may be renewed for subsequent years. Apply with three autobiographical essays, three letters of recommendation, an official transcript, and an in-person interview. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need. Albert and Toni Roothbert established the Fund to support students whose actions reflect strong moral and spiritual values.

Maryland residents in graduate or professional programs in dentistry, law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, social work, or veterinary medicine at eligible Maryland institutions may be considered for MHEC's Graduate and Professional Scholarship. Awards are up to $5,000 per year (minimum $1,000) based on FAFSA need. Renewable for up to eight semesters with continued eligibility. File the FAFSA and contact your institution's financial aid office to request consideration; deadlines vary by school.

Need- and merit-based partial tuition scholarship for in-state transfer students enrolling at UMD in the fall. The $5,000 annual award is split equally across two semesters for two years, supporting roughly 200 recipients each fall. Applicants must apply for fall admission by the March 1 early action deadline and submit the FAFSA by the March 1 priority deadline. No separate scholarship application is required. Recipients must enroll full time, maintain a 3.20 cumulative GPA, and meet continuing eligibility to renew.

In-state incoming University of Maryland freshmen who apply by the November 1 early action deadline are automatically considered for the Dean's Scholarship. No separate application is required. The award offers $1,500 for freshman year or $4,500 per year for freshman and sophomore years. It is not renewable beyond two years. Recipients are selected from admission materials, including academic achievement, extracurricular activities, awards, honors, and the application essay. Selected students are notified by April 1.

Last-dollar institutional scholarship that makes an associate degree or approved workforce training program tuition-free for eligible Baltimore City Community College students. Applicants must be Maryland residents who graduated high school or completed a GED at age 21 or younger in the current year and must file the FAFSA or MHEC One App. Continuing recipients must maintain a 2.0 GPA as full-time students (12 credits per semester), complete all required courses within three years, and renew the FAFSA or One App each year. Comprehensive honors scholarship for high-achieving Baltimore City high school graduates enrolling full-time at Baltimore City Community College with a commitment to transfer to a four-year college. Candidates must be Baltimore City residents with at least a 3.0 GPA, strong recommendations, an application essay, SAT scores, Accuplacer results, and an interview. The package covers tuition, fees, textbooks, a laptop computer, seminars, cultural events, study abroad, and internship opportunities, with articulation paths to university honors programs.
