Michigan Scholarships

Michigan residents ages 17 to 19 with at least a C average who are preparing for college, trade school, business, or military service may apply. Five scholarships of $5,000 each are paid directly to recipients. Funds may support education, trade training, entrepreneurship, or living expenses. Submit your story (essay or video), two references, questionnaire, and transcript by March 31.

Students with disabilities who reside in designated northwest Ohio or southeast Michigan counties and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA may apply for Ability Center scholarships toward college, trade school, or certification programs. Awards are up to $2,500 applied to tuition. Applicants must be enrolled or accepted in a post-secondary degree program. Submit an online application with an 800- to 1,000-word essay, transcript, and three references. The Ability Center and its Auxiliary support students with disabilities pursuing higher education.

Full-time second-year or higher undergraduate or graduate business students who will study abroad through an accredited college or university may apply. Applicants must be residents of Kent, Allegan, Ottawa, or Muskegon County for at least three years, or resident students at a West Michigan college for at least two years, with financial need and a minimum 3.0 GPA. Awards are up to $2,000 to support study abroad costs. This fund uses a separate GRCF application (not the general March 1 application). Completed applications are due April 1.

Female undergraduate or graduate students of Arab descent who live in Michigan and attend a school in Michigan may apply. Ten recipients each receive $1,000. Complete the scholarship application and commit to six hours of community service supporting AAWBC annual activities. The Arab American Women's Business Council established this fund to foster academic achievement among Arab-American women in Michigan.

Michigan high school seniors with close social and cultural ties to the Malayalee community may apply for the Detroit Malayalee Association Scholarship. Applicants need at least a 3.0 GPA, at least one Malayalee parent who is a Michigan resident, and demonstrated academic merit or community involvement. Awards are $1,000 each. Submit an online application with academic details, a personal statement, standardized test scores, and one reference letter. Applications close July 31. The DMA scholarship committee selects recipients by assessing merit, achievements, and ties to the Malayalee community. Awards are presented at DMA public functions.

Kent County, Michigan residents who have lived in the county at least five years and hold a 2.75 or higher GPA while pursuing undergraduate fine arts study, including painting, may apply for the Mathilda and Carolyn Gallmeyer Scholarship through the Grand Rapids Community Foundation general application. Award amounts go up to $1,000. Recipients are selected based on artistic talent, academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, a personal statement, and financial need. Apply through the GRCF scholarship portal. The Grand Rapids Community Foundation administers this fund as part of its scholarship program for West Michigan students.

Residents of ZIP code 48111 who are permanent U.S. residents and are completing or have completed high school, or are successfully completing college or trade school coursework, with at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, may apply for the City of Belleville Fire Auxiliary Scholarship Program. Applicants must document at least 20 hours of community service in the past 12 months and be accepted as full-time students at a college, university, or trade school for the upcoming year. High school graduates, college and trade students, and parents returning to school are among those the program serves. Two scholarships are awarded annually; recent award amounts have been $500 to $750 (structured amount $750). Graduating high school seniors or current college students who reside in Saginaw County, Michigan, with a 3.0 or higher GPA pursuing a full-time degree in hospitality management may apply for the George William Roe Scholarship through the Saginaw Community Foundation. Award amounts vary. Selection weighs overall involvement in work, school, and community activities, demonstrated leadership, academic performance, and a career goals essay. Applicants use the foundation's unified scholarship application, which opens November 1. The deadline is in mid-February.
