Michigan Scholarships

Huntington Bank and the Michigan Chronicle award SWAG (Students Wired for Achievement and Greatness) scholarships to Detroit high school seniors who demonstrate character, community service, and resilience beyond grades alone. Applicants must attend a Detroit Public Schools Community District high school or a Detroit charter school, carry at least a 2.25 GPA, and plan to enroll in college or trade school in fall 2026. Individual awards range from $5,000 to $25,000, with $120,000 distributed in the 2026 cycle. The application includes essays and is reviewed by Huntington and Chronicle staff.

The Corewell Health West GVSU Nurse Scholars Program is a partnership grant for students admitted to the Kirkhof College of Nursing traditional or accelerated second-degree BSN programs at Grand Valley State University. Traditional BSN students receive $4,000 per semester for five semesters ($20,000 total); accelerated second-degree students receive $5,000 per semester for four semesters ($20,000 total). In exchange, recipients commit to two years of full-time registered nurse employment at a Corewell Health West Michigan inpatient facility after graduation and licensure. Students apply through GVSU's scholarship database, receive a dedicated RN coach, and must maintain satisfactory academic progress. Failure to complete the service obligation converts the grant to a repayable loan.

Michigan resident incoming LSA freshmen at the University of Michigan with high academic achievement, leadership, and interest in public service may be nominated for the Alvin M. and Arvella D. Bentley Scholarship. Six to eight nominees are invited to campus to interview; two recipients are selected annually. Each receives $15,000 per year, renewable for four consecutive years of undergraduate study in LSA. Only nominated students are contacted. There is no separate application; nominees are drawn from the pool of first-year admits.

The Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver, enacted by Public Act 174 of 1976, waives tuition for eligible Native American students at Michigan's public community colleges and universities. To qualify, a student must have been a legal Michigan resident for at least 12 consecutive months, qualify for admission at a Michigan public institution, be an enrolled citizen of a U.S. federally recognized Tribe, and be certified by their Tribal Enrollment Department as one-quarter or more Native American blood quantum. The waiver covers tuition (not fees) with no dollar cap or degree-level limit, and there is no application deadline; applications are processed continuously, typically in two to four weeks. Students complete the MITW application, attach a copy of their Tribal ID, and submit it to their Tribal Enrollment Department for certification before it is forwarded to MiLEAP.

The Alvin M. and Arvella D. Bentley Scholarship recognizes incoming LSA students from Michigan who demonstrated high academic achievement, leadership in high school, and interest in a career in public service. Each year six to eight nominated first-year admits are invited to campus to interview, and two recipients are selected for the award. Bentley Scholars receive $15,000 per year renewable for four consecutive years of undergraduate study. Only students nominated for this award are contacted; other admitted students remain eligible for other LSA Four-Year Renewable Scholarships without a separate Bentley application.

Michigan residents admitted to an MDE-approved educator preparation program who are full-time juniors working toward teacher certification with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA may apply for the MI Future Educator Fellowship. The fellowship pays up to $10,000 per academic year toward tuition and required fees, with up to 2,500 awards granted annually. It is renewable up to three years ($30,000 lifetime maximum). Complete the fellowship application, file a FAFSA, and sign the Commitment to Teach in Michigan Agreement. Recipients agree to teach in Michigan upon certification. Apply by June 15 or year-round as funding allows.

Need-based housing scholarship valued at up to six thousand dollars per year for first-year Michigan residents with demonstrated financial need who live in the Bronco Connect Living Learning Community. Preference goes to Kalamazoo Public Schools graduates, Detroit high school graduates, and graduates of select Grand Rapids area high schools, though all Michigan residents may apply. Recipients receive enhanced career exploration, community engagement, and campus support during their first year and may apply for a second year. Submit the Scholarship Universe application with two short essay responses of up to two hundred fifty words each and complete the FAFSA by April 28.

The Jeff and Annette Rowe Joint Pharm.D./MBA Annual Scholarship supports full-time graduate students accepted into Ferris State University's combined Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration program. Up to six $6,000 scholarships are awarded each year, with at least three reserved for Michigan residents when sufficient eligible applicants apply. If fewer than three Michigan residents apply, remaining awards may go to non-resident students. The endowment honors alumni Jeff and Annette Rowe and helps reduce financial burden for pharmacy students pursuing the joint business degree at Ferris.

Michigan residents ages 17 to 19 with at least a C average who are preparing for college, trade school, business, or military service may apply. Five scholarships of $5,000 each are paid directly to recipients. Funds may support education, trade training, entrepreneurship, or living expenses. Submit your story (essay or video), two references, questionnaire, and transcript by March 31.

Female U.S. citizens who are Michigan residents with a minimum 2.75 GPA may apply for Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation scholarships while enrolled full-time in a Michigan college or university pursuing a technology-related degree such as computer science, cybersecurity, or data science. Annual awards typically range from $2,000 to $5,000 and may renew up to three years. Apply online October 1 through January 31. MCWT encourages talented women to continue in technology fields and supports Michigan's goal of becoming a leading state for women in tech.
