New York Scholarships

First-generation graduate students who are permanent residents of California, Illinois, New York, or Texas and demonstrate financial need may apply for the David C. Lizárraga Fellowship from the TELACU Education Foundation, sponsored by Toyota. Priority goes to full-time Business or Engineering majors enrolled for the full academic year, though other graduate fields may be considered. Fellowships are $5,000. The number of recipients varies. Complete the online application with transcripts and financial documentation. Selected applicants participate in an interview evaluated on leadership, achievement, community commitment, and need. The fellowship supports students committed to economic empowerment in underserved communities.

Graduating high school seniors who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents of Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, Utah, or select California counties may apply for the Greenhouse Scholars Whole Person College Program. Applicants need a 3.5+ unweighted GPA and household income at or below $80,000. Up to 37 scholars receive up to $5,000 per academic year in last-dollar tuition support over five undergraduate years, plus mentorship, professional networking, leadership training, internship support, flex funding grants, and community projects. Part 1 requires a short answer response; eligible applicants are invited to Part 2 with transcripts, test scores, two recommendations, four written responses, a five-minute video, and proof of income. Finalists attend in-person interviews. Semi-finalists and finalists complete a multi-stage application process.

Undergraduate or graduate students in STEM programs who reside in New York City, Long Island, or the lower Hudson Valley (Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, or Orange counties) may apply for a $3,000 scholarship. One award is given annually. Submit a 1,000-word proposal on using STEM to increase eye, organ, or tissue donation, plus two reference letters and a transcript or acceptance letter by May 15. The Eye-Bank for Sight Restoration offers this scholarship in commemoration of board leader Leonard Fabian's commitment to advancing donation and STEM education.

In-state transfer students entering an Alfred State baccalaureate program who have completed at least one full-time semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher may receive up to $1,500 per year applied to non-tuition expenses. Students with a 2.0 to 2.99 GPA may receive up to $500 per year. Students who already hold a baccalaureate degree before enrolling at Alfred State are not eligible. Recipients must live on campus and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA each semester. Preference is given to students accepted by May 1. Eligible transfer students beginning in the fall semester are considered based on their transfer credentials.

Dutchess County, New York residents who are graduating seniors or graduates of a Dutchess County high school with at least a B average and demonstrated financial need may apply for the Joseph H. and Mildred C. McManus Scholarship. The award provides $1,500 per year, renewable for up to four years, applied to tuition at accredited colleges or universities. Submit an essay, transcript, FAFSA summary, and two recommendations by March 15 through the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley.

High school seniors in Royal Business Bank service territories (specific counties in California, Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and Nevada) with at least a 3.0 unweighted GPA who plan to attend college full time in the fall may apply. Five scholarships of $1,000 each are offered through the Asian Pacific Community Fund. Submit the common APCF application, recommender form, and transcript by April 20. Selected recipients must provide a college acceptance letter and income verification.

Students enrolled in an accredited U.S. community college, undergraduate, or graduate program, including incoming freshmen and GED holders, with at least a 3.0 GPA may apply for Goldstein and Bashner's $1,000 Combating Campus Issues Scholarship. Submit a 500-word essay on raising awareness of campus challenges such as hazing, bullying, or sexual assault and creating environments where survivors feel empowered to share their stories, plus a resume and transcript. One award is granted annually. Preference may go to New York students. The firm's attorneys focus on fighting campus wrongs including hazing, bullying, Title IX issues, and sexual assault.

High school seniors who are residents of Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Otsego, Seneca, or Tompkins counties and plan to pursue a STEM-related college degree may apply. Preference is given to those attending a New York State institution. Applicants need a cumulative average of 85 or higher and must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Company-sponsored award amounts vary and may include internship opportunities. Applicants can receive only one scholarship that includes an internship. Apply through Partners for Education and Business with an activities list, honors, and a 500-word essay on your major and career goals. Selection also includes an interview.

U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are high school seniors or college freshmen or sophomores under age 20 and residing in eligible states or the District of Columbia may apply. Applicants need a minimum 3.0 GPA (high school seniors) or 2.75 GPA (college students), plus demonstrated academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and financial need. Award amounts vary based on need and may renew for up to four academic years. Complete the application with details on honors, leadership, community service, financial need, and future goals. Funds must be used at an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Student-athletes in intercollegiate sports and exclusively online students are ineligible. The Jimmy Rane Foundation has awarded hundreds of scholarships to help deserving students pursue college educations.

New York residents age 26 or younger who are dependents of a worker who suffered a serious or fatal work-related injury or occupational disease while employed by a New York employer may apply for Kids' Chance of New York scholarships. Awards vary based on need and may cover tuition, books, supplies, housing, meals, and other expenses not covered by other aid. Scholarships are paid directly to the educational institution. Submit fall- or spring-semester applications by the published deadlines. Kids' Chance of New York provides college and vocational scholarships to children of injured or deceased workers.
