Ohio Scholarships

The Ohio Scholarship guarantees admitted Ohio students twenty-five thousand dollars per year for four years, totaling one hundred thousand dollars toward a Denison education. Incoming first-year and eligible transfer applicants with a permanent Ohio address or graduation from an Ohio public or private high school simply submit a complete admission application by December 1 for spring transfers or March 1 for fall transfers, with no separate scholarship form, application fee, or supplemental essay. Denison awards the highest-value Denison-funded scholarship when students qualify for multiple awards and still meets one hundred percent of demonstrated financial need beyond the Ohio Scholarship when families apply for aid.

The Kenner and Margene Bush Cutler Scholar Award provides a twenty-five thousand dollar annual renewable scholarship to a freshman entering Ohio University who graduated from a high school in Athens County, Ohio. Candidates apply for admission by the November 15 early action deadline, complete the supplemental Cutler Scholars application when invited, and participate in virtual interviews if selected as finalists. Cutler Scholars join a cohort with mentoring, enrichment funding for travel and internships, and automatic admission to the OHIO Honors Program unless admitted to the Honors Tutorial College.

The College of Business Executive Advisory Board Cutler Scholar Award grants twenty-five thousand dollars per year to Ohio resident freshman applicants admitted to the College of Business or a related Honors Tutorial College business tutorial program at Ohio University. Students apply for admission by November 15, complete the supplemental Cutler Scholars application, and interview if named finalists. Selection emphasizes academic promise plus community engagement and leadership. Awardees receive four years of merit funding plus annual enrichment support for research, internships, and community projects through the Cutler Scholars Program.

Need-based institutional grant for new Ohio undergraduate students entering The University of Akron who file the FAFSA and have family adjusted gross income of $85,000 or less. The MAP Grant covers remaining tuition and Akron fees after federal, state, and other university aid is applied. No separate application is required beyond completing the FAFSA with UA school code 003123. Recipients must enroll full time each semester. The grant does not cover course fees, book bundles, room, board, or other miscellaneous charges billed separately from tuition.

The Choose Ohio First cITe Scholarship provides up to eight thousand dollars per year to Ohio resident incoming students at Mount St. Joseph University who double major in Computer Science with a Social Computing concentration and another major of their choice. Award amounts depend on annual state funding. The cITe program connects students to mentoring, co-op experiences, and interdisciplinary computing coursework. Interested students should contact cite@msj.edu for application details. Recipients must remain Ohio residents and enrolled in the eligible dual-major program to maintain funding.

Undergraduate students with at least one year of college completed, or graduate students, at accredited U.S. institutions whose daily lives are guided by spiritual values may apply. Preference goes to candidates residing in or attending schools in Connecticut, DC, Delaware, Maryland, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $7,000 and may be renewed for subsequent years. Apply with three autobiographical essays, three letters of recommendation, an official transcript, and an in-person interview. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need. Albert and Toni Roothbert established the Fund to support students whose actions reflect strong moral and spiritual values.

Ohio Dominican University’s Choose Ohio First Sciences and Mathematics program supports Ohio residents beginning their first undergraduate degree in eligible STEMM majors. Awards range from $1,500 to $7,000 per year and are renewable for up to four years, contingent on continued eligibility and state funding. The public application requests applicant contact information, an eligible major, and an essay of no more than 500 words about the applicant’s interest in that major and a related career. Applications received by February 18 receive full consideration; later applications may still be considered.

The Bridge Award at Northern Michigan University reduces the out-of-state tuition gap for non-Michigan residents from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio, or Indiana who are admitted as first-year students with a high school GPA between 2.75 and 2.99. The award provides five thousand six hundred dollars per year and is assigned automatically at admission with no separate application. It stacks with Wildcat Merit scholarships for students with higher GPAs. Recipients must enroll full-time and maintain a 2.75 cumulative NMU GPA for renewal for up to eight consecutive semesters or until completing their first bachelor's degree.

Ohio residents at the University of Akron with at least a 3.0 GPA who are incoming first-year students, transfers, or current students newly entering a qualifying STEM or medicine major may apply for Choose Ohio First STEMM scholarships. Awards provide up to $5,500 per academic year for full-time enrollment in eligible STEMM fields. Applications typically open October 1 and close January 31 for the following academic year. Ohio residents pursuing a first associate degree, first bachelor's degree, or nurse diploma at eligible Ohio institutions (and a handful of Pennsylvania schools) may receive the Ohio College Opportunity Grant. Eligible schools include Ohio public colleges and universities, Ohio private nonprofit colleges and universities, and Ohio private for-profit institutions. Maximum annual awards vary by institution type and enrollment intensity, up to $5,000. Students must demonstrate high financial need on the FAFSA and meet state income/need thresholds used for the program. Complete the FAFSA to be considered. The structured deadline is October 1, 2026; final eligibility and amounts depend on institution type and credit hours.
