About this scholarship
High school seniors or graduating GED students with at least 20 credit hours who reside in SWACO's Franklin County, Ohio district, or live outside the district but plan to attend college within it, may apply if they are accepted to an accredited community college, four-year college, or university and pursue environmental science, environmental studies, engineering, or a related field in solid waste management.
One recipient receives $2,500 per academic year, renewable for up to four years. Complete the application form with documentation of college acceptance.
SWACO supports education related to environmental sustainability and solid waste management in its service district.

- Short financial-needs statement listing other funding and estimated tuition
- One-page MLA-format essay
- One-paragraph personal statement
- Essay must be a one-page essay attached separately, written in MLA format; will be screened for plagiarism
- Personal statement is one short paragraph
- Essay scored on accuracy/originality/relevancy, clarity and organization, and grammar (20% of total score)
- Submit completed Category I application form with signature(s); guardian signature required if applicant is a minor
- Mail complete transcript, SAT and/or ACT scores, and copy of college/university acceptance to SWACO
- Document academic achievement awards/honors, citizenship qualifications, and extracurricular activities
- Submit a short statement of financial needs listing other scholarships/funding awarded vs. estimated tuition
- Eligibility: reside within or attend college within SWACO's District; accepted to accredited institution; graduating with min 20 credit units or graduating GED; major in environmental science, environ
- Deadline: March 31, 2026; submit electronically via submission portal or by mail
- Guardian signature is required for minors.
- Award is renewable for up to four years.
