Alaska Scholarships

Incoming first-year and transfer students from WUE-eligible Western states who are admitted to the University of New Mexico are automatically considered for the Western Undergraduate Exchange Plus program. Eligible students need a 3.0 GPA or 20 ACT (1030 SAT). WUE Plus reduces non-resident tuition to the New Mexico resident rate, with a value of up to $23,149 per year. The award is renewable for up to four years with 15 credits and a 2.5 GPA each fall and spring semester. No separate scholarship application is required, but applying by your admission deadline improves consideration.

Automatic WUE nursing award for incoming nonresident first-year students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents from a participating WUE state or territory, hold an unweighted GPA of 3.90 to 4.00, and are Pre-Nursing or Nursing majors. The scholarship covers 150% of resident tuition, saving about $16,339 per year for up to four years with full-time enrollment and a 3.00 renewal GPA. Construction Management, Radiological Science, alternative fee, and fully online majors are ineligible. Admission files must be complete by December 15 for fall.

The UA Scholars Award is a $15,000 merit scholarship for Alaska high school students ranked in the top 10 percent of their class at the end of junior year. Students are designated by their high school and must apply for admission to any University of Alaska certificate or degree program by June 30 following graduation, with a final deadline of August 15. The award pays $1,875 per semester for up to eight semesters while the scholar maintains full-time enrollment, a 2.5 cumulative GPA, and satisfactory academic progress at UAA, UAF, or UAS.

Legal U.S. residents who have lived in Alaska for at least two of the past three years and have no felony convictions may apply for Alaska Airmen spring aviation scholarships. Categories include piloting, maintenance, air traffic control, airport management, and other aviation pursuits. Scholarships are worth up to $10,000. The number of awards varies. High school seniors should include acceptance letters from aviation schools or recommendation letters from a certified flight instructor. Submit the spring application between January 1 and March 3. The Alaska Airmen partner with aviation legends to support the next generation of aviators in Alaska's diverse aviation industry.

Pride Foundation's scholarship program supports LGBTQ+ student leaders in the Northwest. Since 1993 it has awarded more than $10 million to over 2,600 students, and one application enters students into consideration for more than 60 scholarship funds. In the 2025 cycle the minimum total award was $7,500 and the average award was $8,670. Applicants must identify as LGBTQ+ or questioning and be a resident of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, or Washington (current resident, or lived in one of these states for at least a year within the last five years); they may study elsewhere. Any post-secondary path qualifies, including community college, four-year college, certificate and vocational/technical programs, and graduate or professional school. Citizenship is not checked. The application opens in October and closes in early January, with decisions in June.

The Nanook Pledge Scholarship is UAF's primary automatic merit award for Alaska resident students admitted to a baccalaureate program. Award amounts depend on high school or transfer GPA and are applied at admission with no separate scholarship application. Recipients must enroll full time in at least 12 UAF credits each fall and spring semester, maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress with a 2.0 GPA and 67 percent course completion, and may receive the scholarship for up to four years of continuous enrollment at UAF.

Alaska residents pursuing careers in aviation management, dispatch, air traffic control, operations, safety, or aviation education may apply for the Bob Reeve Management Aviation Scholarship through the Alaska Airmen's Association. The award is $3,000 annually. Application windows are announced on the association's scholarship page and email list. The scholarship honors Bob Reeve, founder of Reeve Aleutian Airways.

The Dorothy Sugg Rotary Scholarship provides one award of $3,000 or two awards of $1,500 to Alaska resident members of the UAF Honors program. Preference is given to students from north of the Alaska Range. Applicants complete the UAF general scholarship application by February 15 and must be enrolled full time in the Honors College. Selection follows Honors endowed scholarship procedures and donor criteria published on the Honors College scholarships page.

Female NSPS student members enrolled in two- or four-year surveying or related degree programs who are legal residents of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming may apply for the $2,000 Cady McDonnell Memorial Scholarship, awarded in odd-numbered years only. One award is available. Submit an application, proof of residency, transcripts, three recommendations, and a personal letter through the NSPS Foundation scholarship application.

Alaska high school seniors who are instrumentalists or vocalists committed to advanced study at a recognized music school or camp may apply for the Mary and Lucian Cassetta Memorial Music Scholarship through the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra. One $1,000 award is paid to the school or program. Selection includes a live audition of two contrasting pieces (maximum 10 minutes) and a short oral interview at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. Have your music instructor submit a recommendation separately to aso@youraso.org by April 14.
