The applications are read and scored by committees of volunteers who use a “blind” review process and make recommendations to CFNIL’s Board of Trustees. Counseling/Guidance; Education, Special; Hearing and deafness; Mental health; Psychology; Speech and language pathology/Audiology. Applicants must be working or planning to work directly with children; must be pursuing graduate level studies for one year in fields which address the special needs of children and youth; this includes, but is not limited to, counseling, psychology, mental health, special education, speech pathology, exceptional children, remedial skills development, hearing impaired, and gifted and talented; scholarships are not awarded for graduate work in administration or general education; must be a U.S. citizen and a permanent resident of a state with a Junior Auxiliary Chapter: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee; must be planning to attend a U.S. college or university for full-time or part-time study. Selection shall be based on the aforementioned applicant's qualifications and compliance with the application details.

The Junior Auxiliary was founded on the principles of helping children and making a difference in their lives; it provides women the opportunity to serve and be a vital part of their communities. The objectives of the Association are to unite in one body all Junior Auxiliary Chapters and members to promote the work and mission of Junior Auxiliary. Founded in 1962, the NAJA Scholarship Program is the longest running Junior Auxiliary Project and the designated National Service Project.

To achieve these goals, the PSGC supports an array of programming to develop opportunities for participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) research and discovery.
