Open to second-year Master's or PhD students at York University who are affiliated with the Centre for Bee Ecology, Evolution and Conservation (BEEc) and show commitment to melittology, with preference for collections-based research. If no qualified collections-based researcher is available, the award may go to a second-year Master's or PhD student researching any area of bee biology, with preference for bee conservation biology. Recipients should acknowledge the award in their thesis and in related publications or presentations. The award amount varies. Apply to the Biology Graduate Program by September 14 with a one-page research statement, an updated CV, transcripts (undergraduate plus first year of graduate studies), and a nomination letter from a supervisor affiliated with BEEc. The award honors Maria Stea's dedication to research at York's Faculty of Science, especially bee systematics.
