About this scholarship

U.S. high school seniors in their final year who have not previously entered the competition may submit original STEM research to the Regeneron Science Talent Search, the nation's oldest pre-college science competition.

The top award is $250,000. The top 300 scholars each receive $2,000, and 40 finalists receive at least $25,000. Nearly 2,600 students enter annually. Submit a research report, essays, recommendations, and transcripts following official rules between June 1 and November 5.

  • 20-page maximum original research/scientific paper (research report)
  • Multiple short-answer questions about the research process (e.g., research question development max 250 words, contributions to each research stage 200 words each, limitations max 200 words)
  • Activities, interests and awards section (up to seven activities, plus summers max 200 words and a fun-fact max 75 words)
  • Letters of recommendation
  • High school transcript
  • Optional standardized test scores
  • Open to U.S. high school seniors completing an independent science, math, or engineering research project
  • Optional standardized-test scores may be submitted.
  • Research must be original STEM research and follow the official competition rules.
