South Dakota Artist Career Development

South Dakota-based individual artists age 18 or older committed to advancing their artistic work may apply. Applicants must reside in South Dakota or on a federally recognized tribal reservation within the state for at least one year before the grant period and remain residents through grant completion. Full-time degree students are ineligible.

Career Development Grants provide $2,000 with no match required to produce new work, market or promote work, reach new audiences, or purchase materials and equipment. Artists at all career stages may apply if they demonstrate artistic merit.

Applications are due March 1 annually through the SDAC GoSmart online system for the July 1 through June 30 grant period. Only one artist grant category may be submitted per cycle.

The South Dakota Arts Council administers these individual artist grants with state and National Endowment for the Arts funding.
