Alabama Artist Fellowship

Alabama artists and arts educators with at least two years of state residency may apply for competitive merit fellowships across rotating disciplines including craft, dance, design, music, photography, poetry, prose, theatre, and visual arts. Fellowships recognize artistic career achievement and potential for continued growth.

FY27 fellowship awards are $7,500 unrestricted with no matching requirement. Funds support personal artistic growth; a public program is not required. Recipients may receive at most two fellowships lifetime.

Applications are accepted online January 1 through March 2 each year. The FY27 cohort of 23 fellows was announced in June 2026 for an October 2026 through September 2027 grant period.

The Alabama State Council on the Arts funds fellowships through state appropriations and the National Endowment for the Arts.
