About this scholarship
Heartland Pride, the organization behind the annual Pride Parade and Festival serving Nebraska and western Iowa, awards four $2,500 scholarships each year, including awards honoring GSA founder Brad Fuglei. The scholarships are funded by festival proceeds and community donations.
Applicants must be permanent residents of Nebraska or Iowa, have completed all requirements to attend post-secondary education or trade school, and have been accepted as a full-time or part-time student at a college, university, or trade school for the upcoming academic year. A minimum 250-word essay on how the scholarship will impact the applicant's education is required. Applicants do not need to identify as LGBTQ+.
Applications for the 2026 cycle were due March 31; the 2027 application opens January 1, 2027, and scholarships are not renewable, though students may reapply.
