About this scholarship
Full-time high school juniors in the United States who are U.S. citizens, maintain at least a 2.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need with adjusted gross family income of $100,000 or less, and show integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity may apply for the Horatio Alger National Scholarship.
One hundred five juniors are selected each year to receive $25,000 toward a bachelor's degree at an accredited nonprofit college or university in the United States.
One application on the Horatio Alger portal covers this and most other foundation scholarships you qualify for. Submit essays on your adversity story and American Dream, counselor and support-form certifications, a high school transcript with fall grades, and income verification. The junior application period runs December 1 through March 1.
The Horatio Alger Association honors Americans who have overcome adversity to achieve success and funds need-based scholarships so promising students can pursue higher education.
