Scholarships at Simon Fraser University

Declared Simon Fraser University International Studies majors undertaking study, research, internship, or volunteer opportunities abroad of three weeks or longer. Awards are valued up to $8,000 based on financial need, achievement, and quality of the opportunity. Students may hold only one of the Simons Foundation International Travel Grant or this award during their SFU studies. Apply with an advising transcript, a one-page opportunity and need statement, and a one-page budget. Recipients submit a one-page reflection and photos within one month of return.

Simon Fraser University undergraduates with an approved major in Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology, at least 60 units completed, a minimum 2.00 GPA, and interest in a health-related career may apply. Two awards of $2,850 each are offered in the Fall term. If no suitable Fall candidate is found, applications are reconsidered for the Spring term. Submit a cover letter, resume, and advising transcript. The Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee selects recipients on the Chair's nomination.

Beedie School of Business third- or fourth-year students who have evidenced or achieved entrepreneurial activities may qualify. The award is $2,500, funded from endowment income. Awards may be granted in any term. Applications should include a letter discussing the student's interest and involvement in entrepreneurial activities. The Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee makes the award on the recommendation of the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs, Beedie School of Business.

Full-time Simon Fraser University undergraduates pursuing a bachelor's degree in the School of Environmental Science who are in good academic standing and have shown dedication to the intersection of science and the arts through volunteerism, community service, or portfolio work. Preference for students interested in contemporary arts or enrolled in a Contemporary Arts or Communication minor. One or more awards valued at $2,400. Apply with an unofficial transcript, a short statement on that intersectional work, and a work sample if appropriate. Nomination by the Director, School of Environmental Science; typically awarded in spring.

Open to a full-time Simon Fraser University Beedie School of Business undergraduate in third year. Candidates should have completed one 300-division management information systems course, show extracurricular or volunteer involvement and interest in information technology, and include a resume, cover letter, and a letter of recommendation from a management information systems or computing science faculty member. One scholarship of $2,000, given annually in the Spring term. The Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee makes the award on the nomination of the Beedie School of Business. Apply through SFU departmental awards when the cycle opens.

Simon Fraser University students in good academic standing from any faculty may apply based on leadership and service to SFU or the broader community. One award of $1,900 is available. Submit an application package describing your activities along with letter(s) of recommendation to Financial Aid and Awards. The award celebrates the lives of Brendan Midgley and Joseph Stryjak.

For full-time SFU students with a declared French major (Concentration for Prospective Teachers), minimum 2.00 CGPA, accepted to or enrolled in an ISS-administered exchange at a university in France. Preference for Université de Tours and/or third-year students. Valued at a minimum of $1,000 annually. Submit a letter of application showing commitment to French studies, plus SFU nomination documentation, to the French Department Chair (c/o frensech@sfu.ca).

Simon Fraser University students who are members of the SFU Pipe Band and enrolled full-time in good academic standing are eligible. Multiple awards are available annually up to the available budget, with individual awards up to $600. Recipients are recognized for significant contribution to the university and community through pipe band participation. The Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee makes awards on nomination of the Director, Ceremonies and Events.

For White Spot Limited employees and sons or daughters of employees who have served with White Spot for at least one year by the application deadline. Two $500 bursaries are offered. Open to students in a full program of studies at UBC, the University of Victoria, Vancouver Island University, Simon Fraser University, or the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Candidates must have achieved an average of at least 65% in their previous year of study. Awards are made in consultation with the company.

For graduate students in the Master of Urban Studies or Graduate Diploma in Urban Studies at Simon Fraser University who demonstrate academic excellence, a record of strong community contributions that build long-term relationships and leadership, and promise of community leadership on urban issues. Amount varies. Apply via the Graduate Awards Application System with transcripts, an application letter on community engagement, one reference or supporting document, and a CV. Students are nominated by the Urban Studies Program Director.
