SFU Film supplemental application writing
SFU's Film BFA requires a School for the Contemporary Arts supplement after the university application. The linked Fall 2026 questionnaire asked for concise responses about preparation, influences, an important film, and an imagined short film, plus an original photograph. SFU has published Fall 2027 dates but still links that older form, so its questions and lengths are examples rather than confirmed 2027 prompts.

What to prepare
- 1Collect specific examples of filmmaking, art, study, or lived experience that shape the stories you want to tell.
- 2Practice explaining what a film's visual and sound choices do, rather than only saying that it inspired you.
- 3Read the current questionnaire before drafting; do not reuse the older short-film concept or photograph task unless SFU retains them for your intake.
How to approach the writing
- Apply to SFU first, then use the assigned reference number for the SCA supplement.
- Keep written responses, any image task, and the self-tape or later selection step on separate checklists.
Before you submit
SFU lists February 7, 2027 for high-school, mature, and early transfer supplements, and April 22 for later transfer or second-degree applicants. Its public Film questionnaire is still labeled Fall 2026. Confirm the current PDF, instructions, and upload in the SFU Student Centre before submitting.
