SFU Visual Art written response and portfolio
SFU's Visual Art BFA requires a separate SCA portfolio with images and writing. The linked Fall 2026 form asked applicants to analyze one selected artwork in their own words and submit five to ten labeled examples of their own work. Its 250-word analysis and named artwork choices belong to that older form; SFU's Fall 2027 deadlines are published without a new questionnaire.

What to prepare
- 1Practice describing the materials, scale, form, and viewer experience of an artwork before making an interpretation.
- 2Explain how a physical choice in the work creates meaning, rather than relying on general praise of the artist.
- 3Label your own portfolio pieces with the information the live form requests and distinguish class assignments from independent work.

- Use the linked 2026 form to understand the kind of close observation SFU has asked for, not to select a 2027 artwork prompt.
- Keep artwork analysis and evidence of your own practice together in the one PDF required by the current SCA upload instructions.
Before you submit
SFU lists February 7, 2027 for high-school, mature, and early transfer supplements, and April 22 for later transfers or second-degree applicants. Its public Visual Art form still says Fall 2026. Confirm the new artwork choice, writing length, portfolio size, and PDF instructions before submitting.
