SFU Indigenous Perspectives teacher education letter of intent
Applicants choosing SFU's Indigenous Perspectives in Teacher Education Module submit a letter explaining their interest in and suitability for this specific module. The letter is additional to the Professional Development Program's short essays, résumé and three recommendations. It is not required for applicants to the general PDP module.

One-page letter of intent, at most 500 words, in addition to PDP short essays
Academic integrity
SFU's academic-integrity rule applies to the letter and essays: AI-written, ghost-written, plagiarized, falsified or misleading materials are removed from the competition.
What to prepare
- 1Explain why this module's Indigenous perspectives matter to the way you hope to teach, using an experience you can discuss respectfully.
- 2Show what you have learned through relationships, study or community work and where you still need to listen and grow.
- 3Connect your preparation to the module itself instead of submitting a general statement about becoming a teacher.
How to approach the writing
- Keep the letter to one page and no more than 500 words, with 12-point type and one-inch margins.
- Complete the separate PDP short essays and follow the goSFU checklist; upload the letter only for an IPTEM application.
Before you submit
For Fall 2027, SFU lists the university application by January 31 and the PDP supplement by February 8, both at 4 p.m. Pacific. Confirm the current module selection and upload field before submitting. SFU warns that declining an IPTEM offer for a general module revokes that offer and does not guarantee a general-module place.
