Scholarships at Eastern Oregon University

MESA brings undergraduate students to Eastern Oregon University to pursue a bachelor's degree in mathematics and prepare for entry into the Master of Teaching and teacher licensure program. Awards range from two thousand to four thousand dollars per year and may renew annually until graduation. Applicants need a 3.25 or higher GPA from high school or prior college. The MESA Review Committee ranks applicants using an essay on pursuing secondary mathematics teaching, math teacher recommendations, prior math coursework, and membership in underrepresented populations in mathematics teaching. Charles and Rhoda Chollet's posthumous estate gift to the EOU Foundation generates multiple three thousand dollar per year scholarships for needy students majoring in science or education at Eastern Oregon University. The couple met and married at Eastern in the 1940s and dedicated their lives to education and scientific inquiry. Students with demonstrated financial need apply through the EOU Foundation AwardSpring application, which matches applicants to donor criteria. Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress and complete foundation requirements including a thank-you letter to donors.

The Rural Emerging Educator Scholarship supports EOU College of Education undergraduates completing teaching field experiences in rural communities throughout Oregon. Established in memory of Edna and Frank Paris, advocates for the arts in La Grande, the award provides over one thousand dollars each year to eligible students. Recipients must be music majors at the sophomore level or above with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. Students apply through the EOU Foundation AwardSpring application during the October 1 through March 1 cycle. The Kathleen Galloway Memorial Scholarship is a five hundred dollar award presented annually at the All-Campus Juried Student Exhibition opening reception at EOU's Nightingale Gallery. It goes to a sophomore or junior-level art major with exemplary technical and conceptual skills. The award honors Kathleen Galloway, a professor of printmaking and drawing at Eastern Oregon University who passed away in December 2009. Art faculty select the recipient based on work submitted to the juried exhibition. Students enter the exhibition through the gallery's annual call for student work; awards are announced at the May reception.

The First Citizen Award encourages Native American students to enroll and complete a four-year degree at Eastern Oregon University. The endowed foundation scholarship renews up to four years with the option to increase while eligibility is maintained. Applicants must be undergraduates seeking their first degree, enroll in at least twelve credit hours per term, provide documentation of tribal or native corporation membership, and maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA.
