Environmental Engineering Scholarships

Doctoral students in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico pursuing advanced training and research in water supply and treatment may apply for the Abel Wolman Fellowship from the American Water Works Association. One fellowship of $30,000 is awarded annually, with a second year of support available if needed. Applicants' work should show vision, creativity, and excellence with recognizable impact on the water industry. AWWA membership is not required. Submit a resume, one-page personal statement, three- to five-page research proposal, curriculum requirements, and a recent transcript. Established in 1984, the fellowship honors Dr. Abel Wolman and supports meaningful doctoral research in water supply.

High school seniors and undergraduate women and non-binary students pursuing STEM degrees at U.S. colleges may apply for the Cards Against Humanity Science Ambassador Scholarship. Five winners each receive a $20,000 tuition stipend. Film a three-minute public YouTube mini-lecture explaining a STEM topic you are passionate about. The video must be scientifically accurate with cited sources, creative, and not a personal statement. An advisory board of women and non-binary STEM professionals reviews submissions and selects finalists.

First-year thesis-track students in the Great Lakes Environmental Science M.A. program at SUNY Buffalo State may apply for the Huppuch Graduate Tuition Scholarship. Candidates should have a 3.3 undergraduate GPA, Buffalo State faculty support, and research interests in aquatic and watershed sciences. Up to three awards of up to $12,000 per academic year (up to $6,000 per semester) cover tuition, mandatory fees, and books. Complete applications received by the deadline receive full consideration for fall entry. Applicants submit a one-page research interests statement. The Great Lakes Center seeks students with strong writing and analytical skills, especially those interested in aquatic invasive species, climate change, environmental microbiology, or predator-prey dynamics.

Full-time graduate students, or those accepted to a U.S. graduate program, pursuing engineering, environmental sciences, planning, restoration, or related STEM fields may apply. Half of scholarship funds are reserved for Black, Indigenous, and people of color students. Individual awards range from $1,000 to $10,000, disbursed through the recipient's institution for tuition and supplies. Submit an application detailing academic pursuits, financial need, and community service, plus proof of enrollment or acceptance. Anchor QEA supports graduate students addressing environmental challenges.

Female and/or minority graduate students pursuing advanced training in water supply and treatment may apply for the Jacobs Holly A. Cornell Scholarship through AWWA's Water Equation program. AWWA membership is not required. One $10,000 award is offered annually. The scholarship was created in 1990 and is sponsored by Jacobs to honor co-founder Holly A. Cornell.

Graduate students enrolled in a research-based master's or Ph.D. program focused on water treatment science and engineering may apply for the Stantec Scholarship through AWWA's Water Equation program. One $10,000 award is offered. Final candidates are asked to submit letters of recommendation and transcripts. Awardees may be asked to provide photos and participate in a virtual scholarship ceremony. Stantec sponsors the award to support innovative water treatment research.

U.S. graduate students pursuing careers in water consulting engineering may apply for the $10,000 Carollo Engineers Bryant L. Bench Scholarship through AWWA's scholarship program. The award supports graduate study related to drinking water quality and the consulting engineering profession. The scholarship honors Bryant L. Bench, Carollo Engineers' Water Practice Director, whose work on managed filtration improved drinking water quality for millions nationwide.

Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in facility management or closely related programs (including construction management, architecture, engineering, hospitality, business, interior design, environmental studies, or real estate) with a minimum 3.2 GPA in FM coursework may apply for IFMA Foundation academic scholarships. Award amounts vary, with scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $10,000. Thirty awards are available. Each scholarship includes fully subsidized attendance at the IFMA World Workplace Conference, and recipients must participate in IFMA Foundation activities there. Working students and veterans are encouraged to apply. Complete the IFMA Foundation scholarship application with required academic documentation before the deadline.

New Jersey residents who are undergraduate juniors or seniors, or graduate students, with at least 15 completed undergraduate credits and a 3.3 or higher GPA may apply for Land Conservancy of New Jersey scholarships while pursuing environmental science, conservation, natural resource management, or related fields at an accredited college or university. The conservancy awards ten scholarships of $10,000 each, paid directly to the recipient's institution. Submit a resume, a 500-word essay, an official transcript, and two letters of recommendation by the April 1 deadline. For decades the Land Conservancy has supported New Jersey students preparing for careers protecting natural resources, with a selection process committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Full-time undergraduates at accredited U.S. colleges pursuing degrees in occupational safety, environmental health, industrial hygiene, safety engineering, or related fields may apply for the ISEA Foundation Bailey-Shipp Safety Scholarship. One recipient receives $8,000 annually. Submit official transcripts, a financial disclosure form, a 500-word essay on your motivation to pursue a safety and health career, a list of extracurricular activities, and two letters of recommendation. The scholarship honors safety industry leaders and was created in 2017 to recognize contributions to worker protection.
