About this scholarship

Sophomore, junior, and senior undergraduates, plus seniors planning first-year graduate study, may apply if enrolled full time in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, data science, environmental science, or industrial safety at an accredited North American university. Applicants must be USMCA citizens (USA, Canada, or Mexico) with at least a 2.5 GPA.

Up to 50 students receive a $7,500 one-year scholarship after completing a paid summer steel-industry internship. The top-scoring applicant earns the $12,000 Premier Intern Scholarship. AIST assists with internship placement if needed.

Applications for 2027-2028 are accepted August 1 through October 5, 2026. Required materials include resume, two-page essay, recommendation letters, and transcript. Recipients are announced in mid-December.

The AIST Foundation funds these awards to develop future leaders for the iron and steel industry through combined internship and scholarship support.
