Civil Engineering Scholarships

Doctoral students enrolled in good standing at an accredited U.S. or international university may apply for the NIH Graduate Partnerships Program (GPP) to conduct dissertation research in the NIH Intramural Research Program while remaining enrolled at their degree-granting institution. Eligible degrees include PhD, DPhil, PharmD, DrPH, PsyD, MD/PhD, and DVM/PhD. U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and eligible international students (including J-1 pathways) may participate through individual or institutional partnerships. While at NIH, GPP students are paid on the NIH predoctoral IRTA stipend table based on research experience after the bachelor's degree. Annual stipends range from $46,100 for a first-year predoctoral fellow with up to one year of experience to $59,300 in later years. NIH also provides health insurance supplements, a $1,500 relocation benefit for new fellows, and professional development, advising, and well-being resources. There is no fixed application deadline; students arrive year round once they secure an NIH principal investigator willing to host their dissertation research and obtain permission from their university graduate program. Individual partnership applicants contact PIs directly and apply through the NIH Application Center. Institutional partnership students apply through specific university partner programs. GPP lets doctoral students combine university coursework with mentored intramural research at NIH institutes and centers across multiple campuses.

U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and U.S. dual citizens who intend to pursue a doctoral degree in a DoD-relevant science or engineering discipline at a U.S. institution may apply for the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship. Baccalaureate, master's, and early-stage PhD candidates are eligible. The three-year fellowship covers full tuition and required fees (excluding room and board), a $3,600 monthly stipend ($43,200 annually), and health insurance support up to $1,600. The program typically awards between 150 and 350 fellowships each year. Apply through the NDSEG program portal during the annual cycle. Research areas must align with DoD service Broad Agency Announcements and related strategy documents.

Doctoral students in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico pursuing advanced training and research in water supply and treatment may apply for the Abel Wolman Fellowship from the American Water Works Association. One fellowship of $30,000 is awarded annually, with a second year of support available if needed. Applicants' work should show vision, creativity, and excellence with recognizable impact on the water industry. AWWA membership is not required. Submit a resume, one-page personal statement, three- to five-page research proposal, curriculum requirements, and a recent transcript. Established in 1984, the fellowship honors Dr. Abel Wolman and supports meaningful doctoral research in water supply.

STEM-educated individuals seeking admission to an ABA-accredited U.S. law school who have an interest in advancing racial or ethnic groups underrepresented in the patent law profession may apply. You must hold a college degree in a field qualifying for U.S. Patent and Trademark Office registration, plan to apply to or have applied to but not yet enrolled in law school, and demonstrate commitment to a patent law career. Selected Sidney B. Williams, Jr. Scholars receive up to a $30,000 law school tuition grant plus admissions mentoring and career support during law school. Submit a completed application with transcripts, resume, personal statement, law school admission plans, and optional letters of recommendation and FAFSA by January 31 for assured tuition-grant consideration.

High school seniors and undergraduate women and non-binary students pursuing STEM degrees at U.S. colleges may apply for the Cards Against Humanity Science Ambassador Scholarship. Five winners each receive a $20,000 tuition stipend. Film a three-minute public YouTube mini-lecture explaining a STEM topic you are passionate about. The video must be scientifically accurate with cited sources, creative, and not a personal statement. An advisory board of women and non-binary STEM professionals reviews submissions and selects finalists.

Underrepresented minority U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are seniors, master's students, or graduates of accredited engineering or applied science programs with a 3.0 or higher GPA may apply for GEM Ph.D. Engineering and Science Fellowships. Employer fellows receive at least $16,000 per year in stipend plus full tuition and fees through year five, with at least one paid GEM employer summer internship. Apply via eGEM by 11:59 PM Eastern on the second Friday in November, and apply separately to at least three GEM member universities.

Automatic merit scholarship for incoming transfer students entering the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Baylor. Recipients must have earned at least 24 college credit hours after high school graduation and applied with a 3.75 transfer GPA. The award is $15,000 per year in addition to university merit and need-based aid and renews automatically for four years with full-time enrollment and a 3.0 Baylor cumulative GPA.

The Engineering Innovation Scholars Program at University of the Pacific provides a fifteen-thousand-dollar annual scholarship renewable for up to four years, two paid summer internships with industry partners, and one-on-one mentorship from a professional engineer. Incoming first-year students admitted to civil engineering or engineering management who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, nationals, or admitted refugees and qualify for a Federal Pell Grant may apply. Applicants select the scholarship option when applying to Pacific's engineering programs and complete required essay questions. The application deadline is January 15. Partners include Clark Pacific and Collins Electrical Company.

Combined merit- and need-based scholarship for incoming Baylor undergraduates entering the School of Engineering and Computer Science. Awards range from $4,500 to $12,500 per academic year after review of academic merit and FAFSA and CSS Profile need data submitted by February 1. Recipients must maintain a 3.25 semester and cumulative GPA, full-time enrollment, good standing in the Dean's Scholars Program, and continued pursuit of an ECS major to renew for up to four years.

The John Tracy Jr. Scholarship awards ten thousand seventy-one dollars to Cal Poly junior or senior civil or environmental engineering students with at least a 3.0 GPA. It is one of the largest named internal awards listed on the CE/ENVE scholarships page for the current application cycle. Students apply through the unified Cal Poly Scholarship application in the My Cal Poly Portal, with the department recommending an April 30 submission for priority consideration. Recipients must remain in good academic standing and meet full-time enrollment requirements while receiving university scholarships.
