About this scholarship
U.S. citizen medical students who resided in Allegheny County at least 12 months before registering and are entering or enrolled in their third or fourth year at a Pennsylvania medical school may apply.
One $12,000 scholarship is awarded through the Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
Apply July 1 through September 30. The fund was established by the Allegheny County Medical Society Foundation to assist local students with medical school costs.

- Completed scholarship application
- Two non-family reference letters, including at least one from a medical-school professor
- Medical-school letter verifying full-time third- or fourth-year enrollment
- Essay of 500 words or fewer
- Must be a United States citizen
- Must be a resident of Allegheny County, PA for at least 12 months prior to registering as a medical student (not counting time at a PA undergrad/grad school)
- Must be enrolled full time in a fully accredited Pennsylvania medical school
- Must be enrolled in or entering third or fourth year of medical school
- Cannot be a past recipient of this scholarship
- A completed scholarship application (via the Scholarship Application Portal)
- Two reference letters from persons other than family members documenting integrity, interpersonal skills, and potential as a future physician; at least one must be from a medical school professor or a
- A letter on school letterhead from the applicant's medical school verifying full-time enrollment as a third- or fourth-year student
- Applications open July 1 and must be submitted by September 30
