NSHSS Be More Grant

Third-year Doctor of Audiology students who are Connecticut residents or enrolled in a Connecticut audiology doctoral program may apply. One award of $1,500 is offered. Submit the online application with proof of residency or enrollment, two letters of recommendation describing clinical and academic abilities, and a transcript by May 31. The recipient must attend the Connecticut Academy of Audiology fall conference to receive the award. The scholarship recognizes a student who embodies the integrity, commitment, and professionalism of Dr. Toni Maxon.

Connecticut residents enrolled in an out-of-state Au.D. program, or students enrolled in the University of Connecticut Au.D. program, may apply for Connecticut Academy of Audiology scholarships. Three $1,500 awards are granted annually to Au.D. students entering their second, third, and fourth years of study. Submit the online application, two faculty recommendation letters, and a transcript by the posted deadline. The scholarships recognize Doctor of Audiology students who demonstrate the leadership and academic standards needed for successful clinical practice.

Natural or legally adopted children of California firefighters who died in the line of duty, whose parent's name appears or is approved to appear on the California Firefighters Memorial Wall, may apply for the Daniel A. Terry Scholarship through the California Fire Foundation. Applicants must be under age 27 and hold a high school diploma or equivalent, or be in their final year of high school. Each initial award is $3,000 and may be renewed for up to four years. The number of recipients varies. Submit the application with enrollment certification, a family photo, an autobiography, a W-9 form, and a brief essay on how being a child of a fallen firefighter affected your life and how the scholarship will impact your future.

Graduate students actively enrolled in or scheduled to graduate from a master’s or higher interior design or related program may apply for the Graduate Interior Design Scholarship. If the graduate program is not interior design-specific, the applicant’s undergraduate degree must be in interior design. One $2,500 award is available. Applications are submitted through the program website and must include a cover letter (aspirations, goals, and how you would use the scholarship), a resume, and a portfolio of interior design projects only (architectural projects are not accepted; use the provided template). Provide contact information for a reference (employer, design professional, or professor); the sponsor contacts them with a survey. Top candidates may be invited to a 30-minute Zoom portfolio presentation. Incomplete submissions are not considered. Winners are contacted in October.

U.S. citizens who are full-time entering or continuing graduate students enrolled in a speech pathology or audiology program at a Louisiana university with at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA may apply. The Society of Louisiana Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists awards two scholarships of $1,500 each. Applications are accepted throughout the year but must be received by September 1 for consideration in that calendar year. Mail a typed completed application to the SPALS Scholarship Committee in Opelousas, Louisiana.

Tennessee residents who meet HOPE Scholarship academic requirements, were in Department of Children's Services custody at age 13 or older, and enroll at an eligible Tennessee postsecondary institution within four years of high school graduation may receive this tuition grant. The award covers tuition and mandatory fees not covered by gift aid, up to full tuition at an eligible public institution. File the FAFSA by September 1 for fall, March 1 for spring, or May 1 for summer enrollment. You must also provide official DCS certification confirming foster care eligibility.
