About this scholarship
Apprentices age 18 or older who meet Alaska residency requirements may apply to study traditional Alaska Native art forms with a recognized master artist. Full-time students during the grant period are ineligible.
Grant funds (typically up to $2,000) pay master artist fees, raw materials, and essential travel for the apprenticeship. The apprentice does not receive direct wages, and tools or academic tuition are not covered.
Applications are due quarterly on June 1, September 1, December 1, and March 1 through ASCA SmartSimple. Priority goes to apprentices studying within their own cultural traditions.
The Alaska State Council on the Arts runs this program to preserve and perpetuate traditional Native arts.
