Natural Resources Scholarships

First-year thesis-track students in the Great Lakes Environmental Science M.A. program at SUNY Buffalo State may apply for the Huppuch Graduate Tuition Scholarship. Candidates should have a 3.3 undergraduate GPA, Buffalo State faculty support, and research interests in aquatic and watershed sciences. Up to three awards of up to $12,000 per academic year (up to $6,000 per semester) cover tuition, mandatory fees, and books. Complete applications received by the deadline receive full consideration for fall entry. Applicants submit a one-page research interests statement. The Great Lakes Center seeks students with strong writing and analytical skills, especially those interested in aquatic invasive species, climate change, environmental microbiology, or predator-prey dynamics.

Half of scholarship funds are reserved for Black, Indigenous, and people of color students. Individual awards range from $1,000 to $10,000, disbursed through the recipient's institution for tuition and supplies. New Jersey residents who are undergraduate juniors or seniors, or graduate students, with at least 15 completed undergraduate credits and a 3.3 or higher GPA may apply for Land Conservancy of New Jersey scholarships while pursuing environmental science, conservation, natural resource management, or related fields at an accredited college or university. The conservancy awards ten scholarships of $10,000 each, paid directly to the recipient's institution. Submit a resume, a 500-word essay, an official transcript, and two letters of recommendation by the April 1 deadline. For decades the Land Conservancy has supported New Jersey students preparing for careers protecting natural resources, with a selection process committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Graduate students pursuing an advanced university degree in wildlife, zoology, botany, ecology, or related biological sciences with a focus on waterfowl or wetlands ecology may apply to California Waterfowl for the Dennis Raveling Scholarship. Two awards of $4,000 each are granted annually based on academic achievement, project merit, and dedication to conservation. Submit a one-page research proposal summary, resume, faculty support letter, and two references. Email the complete package to California Waterfowl.

Canadian and U.S. students with direct ties to the Pacific halibut fishery who are pursuing post-secondary education at a university, technical college, or similar program may apply for the International Pacific Halibut Commission Merit Scholarship. One new scholarship of $4,000 per year is awarded every two years. It renews annually for up to four years of undergraduate study with satisfactory academic performance. Submit transcripts, a statement of career goals, three letters of recommendation, and other materials listed in the online application guidelines. The IPHC established the fund to support further education for students connected to the Pacific halibut industry. A committee of industry and Commission representatives selects recipients based on academic qualifications, career goals, and commitment to the fishery.

Full-time undergraduate students attending a community college, university, or technical institution in Florida may apply. You must be an incoming freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior enrolled in a horticulture program or related field with intent to graduate in that field, and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA. The James H. Davis Memorial Scholarship through the National Horticulture Foundation provides awards ranging up to $3,000 to encourage careers in Florida's horticulture industry. Apply through the National Horticulture Foundation scholarship program by the January 15 deadline.

El Paso County high school seniors who are U.S. citizens with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrated interest in outdoor recreation, environmental stewardship, or natural-resource preservation may apply for Incline Friends scholarships. Up to three awards of up to $2,500 each are given for one year. Funds are paid directly to the educational institution the student will attend. Complete the online application with two letters of recommendation from non-family members, an official high school transcript covering at least the last two years, and a 200 to 500 word essay on your qualifications and educational and career goals.

High school seniors, current undergraduates, or returning adult students from Antioch Township or neighboring communities majoring in horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, botany, plant pathology, forestry, agronomy, environmental concerns, city planning, land management, or allied fields may apply. One award of $2,000 is offered. Submit the application form with a recommendation letter from a non-relative, an official transcript, and a 500-word or shorter personal statement on your background, future goals, and commitment to your chosen career. Named for founding Antioch Garden Club member Nancy Zitkus, a dedicated former club treasurer.

Graduate students enrolled at Florida colleges or universities studying engineering, natural sciences, public administration, or a related field with an interest in stormwater may apply through the Florida Stormwater Association Educational Foundation. Awards include at least $2,000 per recipient plus registration and hotel for the FSA Winter Conference. Number of awards varies annually. Applicants must have completed at least one graduate semester, be in good academic standing, and plan full-time fall enrollment. Download the application when released in January and submit all materials by August 7. Awards are presented at the Winter Conference in December.

Asian American and Pacific Islander students enrolled in at least 8 units at an accredited California college or university may apply. You must have at least a 2.0 GPA and be pursuing environmental, cultural, or social sciences, with preference for marine biology, oceanography, environmental studies, or cultural studies. One $1,250 award is offered annually. Submit the application packet by the posted deadline. Funds may support educational experiences related to marine protected areas and ocean stewardship, such as scuba lessons, relevant courses, or events.
