Scholarships for Education Majors

Tennessee residents from qualifying Middle Tennessee counties who plan to pursue a business, education, or STEM degree full-time at a four-year, nonprofit college or university may apply. Scholarship amounts vary based on financial need and may be applied to tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment. High school seniors need a minimum ACT score of 21 and GPA of 2.5. Award checks are made payable only to the college or university. Submit the online application between September 15 and December 15 with proof of financial need via a 1040 tax return, transcripts, and required documents.

NSF Robert Noyce scholarship for BSU undergraduates completing a STEM plus STEM-education double major who commit to four years teaching in a high-need K-12 district after graduation. Scholarships reach up to $26,000 per year for up to two years and can cover tuition, fees, books, room, board, and related costs. Scholars join a professional learning community with PeaceMaker Resources training and post-graduation mentoring during their first two years in the classroom. U.S. citizens and permanent residents from racial or ethnic groups historically underrepresented in higher education who are at the dissertation writing stage in education research or related social science or humanities fields may apply. The one-year, nonrenewable fellowship provides a $25,000 stipend for dissertation research beginning July 2026 or later, plus mentoring and presentation at the AERA Annual Meeting. Requires a dissertation prospectus, timeline, CV, budget, transcript, and two recommendation letters via AERA Apply.

The Steven J. Harrison Scholarship supports undergraduates admitted to the Guaranteed Rochester Accelerated Degree in Education program, a five-year BA or BS plus MSEd pathway through the Warner School honoring Steven Harrison, a 2000 Rochester graduate and East High School teacher. Students indicate GRADE interest on the Common Application or Coalition application and must meet program admission standards, including strong academics and education-related experience. Official GRADE students receive at minimum one-third of undergraduate tuition for four years plus a 50 percent Warner graduate tuition scholarship. The award memorializes Harrison's commitment to Rochester education.

The Goodnight Scholars Program supports low- and middle-income North Carolina residents studying STEM disciplines or STEM-affiliated education majors at NC State. First-year and transfer students may receive an invitation to apply after admission. The scholarship currently pays $23,000 per year and renews up to four years for traditional students or up to two years for transfer students. Scholars also access professional development programming, travel, enrichment grants, and mentorship tied to the program's pay-it-forward mission.

The Sherman Teacher Scholars Program at UMBC prepares culturally responsive educators for Baltimore City and similar high-needs urban schools. First-year, transfer, upper-class, and graduate students pursuing teaching certification in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education may apply. In-state awards range from $5,000 to $15,000 per year and out-of-state awards from $10,000 to $22,000 per year. Scholars receive coaching, field experiences, and cohort support while completing an undergraduate certificate or master's in education. First-year applications are due January 15 and fall transfer applications April 15.

Long Island graduating high school seniors or current undergraduates who are U.S. citizens or legal residents and plan to pursue special education, occupational therapy, speech pathology, or other behavioral-focused majors at an accredited U.S. college or university may apply. Applicants need a 3.5 GPA, top-20% class rank, demonstrated financial need, and at least 80 hours of volunteer work in special education. Students related to the Whelan family or current board members are not eligible. The Whelan Foundation awards up to $20,000 per year ($10,000 per semester) for up to four years. Two scholarships are available. Applications are due by March 31 each year. Recipients must maintain full-time enrollment and good academic standing for renewal.

The Noyce Scholarship for STEM Teachers at the University of Lynchburg supports undergraduates majoring in biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, or mathematics who are preparing to teach in secondary schools. Scholars receive $10,000 to $20,000 during junior and senior years, plus mentorship and workshops on teaching diverse learners and students with disabilities. Applicants apply during sophomore year with an online application, personal statement, and one recommendation. Recipients commit to teaching in high-need Virginia schools for four years after graduation. The program is funded by the National Science Foundation and supplements other Lynchburg financial aid.

The Be the Change Transfer Student Scholarship provides nineteen thousand five hundred dollars per year to transfer students at Mount St. Joseph University pursuing a teacher licensure degree through the BE THE CHANGE program. Eligible students need at least forty-five transferable semester hours including twenty-two from a community or two-year college, a minimum 2.75 cumulative transfer GPA, and full-time enrollment toward an education licensure program. Recipients cannot also receive the MSJ Award or standard merit-based transfer scholarships. The award renews with full-time status and satisfactory progress toward the teaching license.

The Robert Noyce Scholarship at Catawba College supports upperclassmen pursuing a STEM major and teacher licensure through the Noyce Scholars project funded by the National Science Foundation. Eighteen scholars receive eighteen-thousand-dollar scholarships in their junior and senior years while completing rigorous coursework in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or mathematics plus teacher preparation and mentored experiences in Rowan-Salisbury Schools. Scholars engage in cohort retreats, mentoring with effective local teachers, and collegial support networks. After graduation, recipients must work four years in a high-needs school district and receive continued mentoring plus funds for STEM conference attendance and classroom supplies.
