Scholarships at University of Toronto Mississauga

Canadian citizens or permanent residents who are Ontario residents in second or third year in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Arts and Science, UTM, or UTSC may apply. Selection is based on financial need and academic merit, with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Candidates must also show involvement in micro/nanofabrication through research, coursework, or work experience, or propose a summer research or capstone project in that area. The award is up to $5,000. An essay is part of the application.

UTM-affiliated PhD students in a thesis-based Biology research program supervised by Biology faculty who are not in their final year of study may apply once for technology that directly supports research (for example computers, tablets, or field equipment). Cell phone-related expenses are not eligible. The grant is up to $1,500 per student, one time only. Complete the Biology Graduate Student Technology Grant Application Form and submit proof of purchase.

UTM-affiliated graduate students in a thesis-based Biology research program supervised by Biology faculty may apply for professional development, training, workshops, summer schools, or training at other institutions. The grant is up to $1,000 per student per academic year, paid as expense reimbursement after the training. Complete the application form before registering. International travel requires Safety Abroad Office registration at least one month before departure.

UTM undergraduates in good academic standing may apply individually or in groups of up to three for funding to support faculty-supervised, student-initiated research connected to their degree program. Grants are up to $500 per student. Students may receive one grant per academic year across the general, sustainability (Amrita Daniere), or Social Justice, Anti-Racism and Decolonization research pools. Student stipends and ordinary course expenses are not eligible. Apply with a faculty supervisor endorsement in the October or March competition. Results are typically shared about one month after the competition closes.

UTM-affiliated thesis-based Biology graduate students (such as CSB and EEB MSc and PhD students) supervised by a Biology faculty member who have made significant, sustained contributions to the department and graduate community may be nominated for the Excellence in Service Award. The annual award is $100. Nominations are accepted from Biology faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, or graduate students and must include a short letter of support (maximum 250 words). Self-nominations are not accepted. The award recognizes students who go beyond research duties to improve the student experience and foster a collaborative learning environment.

UTM students participating in non-credit co-curricular activities offered by the University of Toronto may apply for the Bursary for Co-Curricular Program Participation through the Centre for Student Engagement. Reimbursement is up to $100 per term for qualifying expenses such as transportation (when UPASS or the UTM shuttle does not serve the location), police checks, conference fees, and registration fees. Full-time undergraduate students at the University of Toronto Mississauga who demonstrate financial need may receive the Kamla, Suneela & Veena Saigal Award as a named grant within the University of Toronto Advanced Planning for Students (UTAPS) program. Award value is based on financial need. Students typically apply through Need Navigator after submitting government student aid such as OSAP; UTAPS helps cover unmet need between provincial aid and U of T costs.

Registered full-time domestic UTM undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who have submitted a UTAPS application through Need Navigator may apply for a University of Toronto student grant. The grant is non-repayable funding toward educational expenses. It is not meant to cover non-educational costs or to repay debts. Students are expected to have explored other funding sources such as family support, savings, study-period income, government aid, and lines of credit as appropriate. Complete the online undergraduate grant application and select University of Toronto Mississauga as your division. Fall and Winter application windows are posted each year; there is no Summer session application.

Upper-year UTM commerce students with academic merit and demonstrated excellence in community leadership and mentorship of current or prospective students may apply for the Pragya Narula Memorial Scholarship. Amount varies. Apply through UTM in-course awards.

Full-time UTM students living on campus with extensive involvement in the community and Student Residence activities, and a minimum CGPA of 2.0, may apply for UTM Residence Community In-Course Scholarships. Amount varies. Apply through UTM in-course awards.
