Five winners each receive a $20,000 tuition stipend. Film a three-minute public YouTube mini-lecture explaining a STEM topic you are passionate about. The video must be scientifically accurate with cited sources, creative, and not a personal statement. An advisory board of women and non-binary STEM professionals reviews submissions and selects finalists.

Up to $10,000Rolling deadlineAfrican American residents of Hampton Roads, Virginia with at least a 3.0 GPA who are committed to pursuing a STEM degree may apply for the African American Leadership Society STEM Scholarship administered by United Way of South Hampton Roads. Eligible applicants include high school seniors, currently enrolled college students, and qualifying veterans entering college. Scholarships are worth up to $10,000 toward tuition. The number of awards varies. Women account for at least 50% of recipients, and 25% of awards are designated for first-generation college students. Up to $2,500 is available, with 18 awards. Funds are paid to the student’s financial aid account for tuition, mandatory fees, on-campus housing, and meal plans. If there are no outstanding charges, the scholarship is forfeited; no funds are paid directly to the student.
