About this scholarship
First Nations, Inuit, or Métis students entering an undergraduate program at UBC Okanagan directly from secondary school or transferring from another post-secondary institution may be considered for these renewable Indigenous entrance awards. Recipients must be academically qualified and would not be able to attend UBC without financial assistance. Consideration is also given to leadership, community service, and extracurricular achievement. Preference is given to students entering a STEM program.
Renewable entrance awards totalling $40,000 (valued at $10,000 per year) are available from a gift by Rogers Communications Inc. in memory of Ted Rogers (1933-2008). Subject to continued academic standing, awards are renewed for up to three additional years of study or until the first undergraduate degree is obtained (whichever comes first). The adjudication committee recommends recipients.
Ted Rogers studied at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School. In 1967 he established Rogers Communications Inc. This award was established as part of Rogers' commitment to increase diversity in Canada's telecommunications industry.
