About this scholarship
College juniors, seniors, and graduate students at North American institutions, or Americans studying abroad, who aspire to become foreign correspondents may apply.
Eighteen awards of up to $4,000 are available. Winners receive either a $3,000 scholarship for independent reporting or a $4,000 fellowship for time in a major news bureau.
Submit a one-page cover letter, one-page resume, and a print (600 to 800 words), photo, video, or audio work sample to foundation@opcofamerica.org. Winners are required to attend the Foundation Scholarship Luncheon in New York City; travel and hotel are covered.

- One-page resume emphasizing past journalism experience, language and media skills, and visa/passport status for working overseas
- Work sample type depends on track: print journalism (600-800 word writing sample), photojournalism (photos + ~500 word written component), or video/audio (clip + ~500 word written component)
- This is a journalism-focused scholarship; the 'essay' components are autobiographical cover letter plus journalism work samples
