Scholarships at Vancouver Island University

Available to high school graduates or mature students entering Vancouver Island University for the first time in any program, based on academic achievement and financial need. Preference goes to students from the Cowichan Valley. Three awards of $2,500. Apply via the VIU entrance award application.

Canadian-citizen high school graduates from Vancouver Island or the Sunshine Coast entering Vancouver Island University. One entrance award of $1,500. Selection weighs academic excellence plus community involvement and/or entrepreneurship. Apply through VIU's Scholarship, Award and Bursary Profile.

Students with a developmental, learning, neurological, sensory, or physical disability entering first year of full-time university studies at Vancouver Island University may apply through the VIU Scholarship, Award and Bursary profile once they have a student number. Financial need is also considered. One entrance award of $1,000 is available.

Graduates of a Nanaimo high school entering an applied, technology, or university program at Vancouver Island University who demonstrate financial need may be considered for the Frank Ney Memorial Entrance Award. One award of $750 as a tuition credit. Apply through VIU's entrance awards process.

Vancouver Island University entrance-award applicants proceeding directly from high school to VIU for the fall semester may receive the Tommy Douglas Entrance Award ($500; 1 available) for academic excellence. Apply through the single VIU entrance-awards application.

For White Spot Limited employees and sons or daughters of employees who have served with White Spot for at least one year by the application deadline. Two $500 bursaries are offered. Open to students in a full program of studies at UBC, the University of Victoria, Vancouver Island University, Simon Fraser University, or the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Candidates must have achieved an average of at least 65% in their previous year of study. Awards are made in consultation with the company.
