Alberta Scholarships

For undergraduate students entering first year in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary who show academic merit and financial need. Recipients must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and residents of Alberta. Up to three bursaries of up to $9,000 each are offered annually. Apply through the My UCalgary Portal High School Awards application.

Canadian Armed Forces members and their immediate families may apply if pursuing a credentialed post-secondary program at a public Alberta institution. Eligible members are those who actively served in designated operations (Regular or Reserves) or were permanently disabled through CAF training. Family applicants must be a spouse, common-law partner, or child of a member who served in designated operations, or who died or was permanently disabled while serving or through training. Up to 200 awards of $5,000 are available. Application instructions and selection details are on the Student Aid Alberta site. The award honours Alex Decoteau, an Olympic athlete and Canada's first Indigenous police officer, who died at Passchendaele in 1917 while serving in the Canadian Expeditionary Force.

Continuing University of Calgary MD students in the Cumming School of Medicine entering second or third year may be considered. You need satisfactory academic merit, financial need, and an interest in family medicine. Open to any citizenship or residency status. One bursary of $3,000 is offered annually. Apply through the My UCalgary Portal for Cumming School of Medicine Awards. Donated by Crowfoot Village Family Practice.

Mature students who have been out of high school for three years or more and are entering the Industrial Heavy Equipment Technology program are eligible. You must be an Alberta resident. Awards are based on academic achievement and financial need. The award is worth $2,000. One award is available.

Open to Olds College students who have completed first year and are currently enrolled in year two or three of a program of study. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants, show financial need, maintain a GPA of 2.30 or better, and demonstrate good citizenship through community involvement or volunteering. Students must have received an Olds College bursary or student loan in their first year of studies. One continuing entrance award of $1,416 is available. Apply through the Olds College awards portal. Selection weighs financial need, academic standing, citizenship, and community involvement.

Continuing JD students entering second or third year in the University of Calgary Faculty of Law who demonstrate an interest in energy and environmental law are eligible. One scholarship of up to $1,300 is offered annually for academic merit. Apply through Law Nominated Awards for new and continuing students. Donated by Judy MacLachlan on behalf of a group gift, honouring a lifetime of teaching and commitment to the Faculty of Law.

Students in their third semester enrolled in any certificate, diploma, applied degree, or degree program at SAIT who demonstrate financial need and academic achievement (minimum GPA 3.70) may apply. Applicants should outline how their career and philosophy could help better world understanding. One general award of $1,000 is offered for the Fall semester. International students are eligible. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Calgary West. Apply through mySAIT Student Awards and Financial Aid by November 28.

Third-semester students in the Bachelor of Business Administration program (all majors) within the School of Business at SAIT may apply. Candidates must be landed immigrants or former landed immigrants who are now Canadian citizens. One award of $750 is offered for the Fall semester. Applicants must show financial need, academic achievement, and volunteerism in the not-for-profit sector or community. Preference goes to students interested in entrepreneurship, taxation law, or not-for-profit work, or to single parents. Apply through mySAIT Student Awards and Financial Aid. Funded by the Esmail Safana Farzana Fayaz Bharwani Foundation.

Open to international students entering any program within the School of Health and Public Safety at SAIT. Candidates must exhibit academic achievement and demonstrate community spirit and leadership skills. One award of $750 is available for students beginning in the Fall semester. Apply through mySAIT Student Awards and Financial Aid by August 15.

Keyano College full-time students participating in an ACAC sport who show strong leadership and a positive attitude may receive the Trak Enterprises Athletic Award. One award of $600 is available. Coaches nominate candidates and the Athletic Director selects the recipient; no student application is required.
