Canadian Armed Forces members and their immediate families may apply if pursuing a credentialed post-secondary program at a public Alberta institution. Eligible members are those who actively served in designated operations (Regular or Reserves) or were permanently disabled through CAF training. Family applicants must be a spouse, common-law partner, or child of a member who served in designated operations, or who died or was permanently disabled while serving or through training.
Up to 200 awards of $5,000 are available. Application instructions and selection details are on the Student Aid Alberta site.
The award honours Alex Decoteau, an Olympic athlete and Canada's first Indigenous police officer, who died at Passchendaele in 1917 while serving in the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
