English Scholarships in Canada

Awarded to the student who has achieved the highest A grade in any undergraduate course in Ukrainian language or literature. The scholarship is valued at $400. A student is not eligible to receive the award more than once.

The best student entering the fourth year of the Honours program in English Literature receives this scholarship. The award amount varies. One scholarship is granted. Selection is based on academic merit. The Department of English Literature established this gift.

University College, University of Toronto students in any year who have done well in English literature courses. The prize value varies. Eligible students are automatically considered; no application is required. A bequest of Mrs. Beryl Lowry, a University College alumna who studied English literature in her later years.

McGill University Department of English undergraduate or graduate students with distinction in English literature who have also shown creative literary ability. One prize valued at $2,000. Submit creative work through the department's annual prizes call.

Entering or continuing undergraduate or graduate students in the Department of English at the University of Victoria may apply for this bursary. Preference is given to students studying English Literature. One or more awards are given annually. The award value varies. Apply through the UVic general bursary application by October 15 for the winter session.

Trinity College's annual English literature essay prize for penultimate-year students globally. Respond to one of the published critical or creative-critical questions in up to 3,500 words of English prose and submit online by July 31 at noon UK time. First prize £600 and second prize £400 (split between student and school; roughly $780 and $520 USD). Critical work on literature in translation is permitted. One entry per student.

Open to an undergraduate student at the junior level (61-90 credit hours) who has shown the most promise in English literature. One prize of $500 is awarded annually on the recommendation of the Chair of the Department of English.

The King's University third- or fourth-year Bachelor of Arts students with a major in English who have the highest GPA in English courses may be considered. A minimum 3.5 GPA is required. One scholarship of $1,000 is available. Eligible students receive automatic consideration. No application is required. The scholarship recognizes academic excellence in English literature in the spirit of C.S. Lewis.

University of New Brunswick Faculty of Arts students who have completed at least first year may receive this scholarship. Award amounts vary. Preference is given to students who have demonstrated excellence in at least 12 credit hours in English Literature.
