Agriculture Scholarships

Doctoral students enrolled in good standing at an accredited U.S. or international university may apply for the NIH Graduate Partnerships Program (GPP) to conduct dissertation research in the NIH Intramural Research Program while remaining enrolled at their degree-granting institution. Eligible degrees include PhD, DPhil, PharmD, DrPH, PsyD, MD/PhD, and DVM/PhD. U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and eligible international students (including J-1 pathways) may participate through individual or institutional partnerships. While at NIH, GPP students are paid on the NIH predoctoral IRTA stipend table based on research experience after the bachelor's degree. Annual stipends range from $46,100 for a first-year predoctoral fellow with up to one year of experience to $59,300 in later years. NIH also provides health insurance supplements, a $1,500 relocation benefit for new fellows, and professional development, advising, and well-being resources. There is no fixed application deadline; students arrive year round once they secure an NIH principal investigator willing to host their dissertation research and obtain permission from their university graduate program. Individual partnership applicants contact PIs directly and apply through the NIH Application Center. Institutional partnership students apply through specific university partner programs. GPP lets doctoral students combine university coursework with mentored intramural research at NIH institutes and centers across multiple campuses.

The Florida Farm Bureau Ag Scholarship supports a Warner University student pursuing a Bachelor's in Agricultural Studies while managing hands-on operations at the Swindle Ag complex. The Florida Farm Bureau state board approved funding of $24,500 per year for two years, enabling the recipient to gain practical experience overseeing the greenhouse, land lab with heifers, citrus test plot, chicken coop, welding units, workshop, tractor, and raised vegetable beds. Warner selects the manager through interviews and review of recommendations and resumes. This partnership continues Florida Farm Bureau's long-standing investment in Warner's agricultural program and Collegiate Farm Bureau club. Graduate students enrolled in a master's or doctoral program conducting research that directly benefits the U.S. potato industry may apply. One $10,000 award is granted annually based on academic record, field of study, leadership, and commercial value to the potato sector. Research may address production efficiency, pest management, consumer benefits, or industry competitiveness. Submit academic transcripts, a resume or CV, a detailed description of potato-related research, letters of recommendation, and the official application. The Potato Leadership, Education, and Advancement Foundation (Potato LEAF) supports graduate research advancing America's potato industry.

Graduate students (master's or doctoral) who hold a bachelor's degree and are conducting research that directly benefits the U.S. potato industry may apply through the Potato Leadership, Education, and Advancement Foundation (Potato LEAF). One $10,000 academic scholarship is awarded. Selection weighs academic achievement, leadership, potato-related research, commercial value to the industry, extracurricular activities, and grades.

U.S. residents may apply for the Herb Society of America's Research Grant for a small, self-contained project on the horticultural, scientific, or medicinal use of herbs (defined as historically useful for flavoring, medicine, economic, industrial, or cosmetic purposes). One grant of up to $10,000 is awarded annually. Applications open January 1 and close January 31; email research.grants@herbsociety.org with questions and submissions. Founded in 1933, the Society supports research and education on the cultivation and use of herbs.

Prestigious $10,000 scholarship for an outstanding Nebraska college junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled at a Nebraska institution pursuing a beef industry-related degree. Selection weighs academic record, demonstrated need, and Nebraska beef industry involvement including past achievements and future plans. Finalists interview with the selection committee. Apply through the Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation by March 1; additional $1,000 minimum scholarships are available through the same application for high school seniors and undergraduates.

The Jordan Award supports highly qualified students entering Master of Science programs in the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at Fresno State. Up to five awards are offered, each providing up to $10,000 per year for two years and available to U.S. citizens and international students. Funding may combine scholarship and assistantship support based on qualifications, and Jordan assistantship recipients provide teaching or research support to faculty mentors. The Harvey Award provides up to $9,000 per year for two years to U.S. citizen students entering Master of Science programs in the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at Fresno State, per donor requirements. Up to five Jordan and Harvey graduate awards are offered collectively each year, and in some cases both awards may support the same student for combined funding. Awards may include scholarship and assistantship components tied to faculty mentorship. National $7,000 scholarship for a high school senior planning to pursue an agriculture-related degree at an accredited college or university. Funded by BASF and managed by the American Soybean Association, the award is disbursed in two $3,500 installments contingent on good academic standing. Applicants must be the child or grandchild of a current ASA or state soybean association member. Online applications open each fall for the following academic year.

Undergraduate students enrolled in landscape contracting or horticultural programs at accredited two- or four-year colleges and universities may apply for NALP Foundation scholarships. Awards are $5,000. Scholarships are presented annually at the National Collegiate Landscape Competition. Register for a free NALP student membership and provide two letters of recommendation. Scholarships are funded by industry ambassadors supporting the next generation of landscape professionals through the National Association of Landscape Professionals.
