Full-time Nipissing University students who demonstrate financial need and are Ontario residents as defined by OSAP may receive this bursary. One bursary of $700 is presented annually. Apply through the Awards Month application on Web Advisor beginning October 1; the deadline is 4:00 p.m. November 1.

Simon Fraser University undergraduate Archaeology majors in the Faculty of Environment who are enrolled full-time in the spring term and plan to use funds for field-research travel may apply. One award of approximately $2,000 is available. Submit an unofficial transcript and a letter describing how the research travel relates to your Archaeology career by November 1 to the Department of Archaeology.

Third- or fourth-year University of Waterloo engineering students or teams may apply for project funding to develop assistive systems or devices for physically disadvantaged persons. Awards range from $500 to $2,000, with multiple grants available. The project team average must be at least 75%. Submit the Canadian Posture and Seating Centre project funding form by the term deadline of February 15, July 1, or November 1. The fund encourages student projects that help physically disadvantaged persons participate fully in Canadian society.

Third- or fourth-year students enrolled in Computer Science or Software Engineering may apply for the Frank Lun Scholarship for Excellence. One award of $1,000 is presented annually. Candidates need a minimum overall average of 80% and leadership shown through extracurricular involvement. Applications should be submitted during the 3B or 4A term.

Indigenous students (status or non-status Indian, Metis, or Inuit) enrolled at a Canadian university or college can apply. Applicants must already be attending the institution and either enrolled in a journalism program or actively involved with a campus news organization such as a student paper or broadcast station. The scholarship is open to French- and English-speaking Indigenous Canadians. One award of $4,000 is intended to help with education costs. Recipients with appropriate experience may also be offered temporary employment or other opportunities at The Canadian Press, at the provider's discretion. Apply with a completed application form. Journalism work samples, newsroom experience, and reference letters from editors or newsroom supervisors are strongly encouraged. Established in 1990 in honour of Gillis Purcell, general manager of The Canadian Press from 1945 to 1969.

This fund was established by a donation from Jim Kalbfleisch and his friends and family in honour of his retirement.
