Your final grade
Fill in all three fields to see your grade

Overall = current grade × (100% − weight) + final score × weight. Letter grades use standard cutoffs; your syllabus may differ.

Before the exam, use the outcome table

Enter just your current grade and the final's weight, and the table shows where every possible exam score leaves you. Knowing your floor kills panic (a rough final rarely moves you as far as it feels like it will), and knowing your ceiling tells you whether chasing the next letter grade is worth the all-nighter.

Common questions

How do I calculate my grade after the final exam?

Multiply your current grade by the share of the course that isn't the final, multiply your exam score by the final's weight, and add them. An 88% with a 92% on a 30%-weight final lands at 88 x 0.7 + 92 x 0.3 = 89.2%. This calculator does it instantly.

My final isn't graded yet. Can I still use this?

Yes, that's what the outcome table is for: it shows your overall grade for finals scored 100 down to 50, so you know your realistic range before you even sit the exam.

What letter grade is my percentage?

This tool uses the most common scale: 93+ is an A, 90 an A-, 87 a B+, 83 a B, 80 a B-, 73 a C, and 60 passes. Your syllabus may set different cutoffs, so treat the letter as a guide and the percentage as the real number.

Can one final tank my grade?

Less than it feels like it can. A final worth 30% moves your grade by at most 0.3 points per point of exam score: a disaster 50% on the final drags an 88% student to 76.6%, painful but passing. The weight caps the damage either way.

What if I want to know what I need instead?

That's the other direction. Use the final grade calculator to see what score the final demands for the grade you want.
