Scholarships at Widener University

The High School Leadership Award Scholarship provides $20,000 over four years to first-year Widener undergraduates from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Delaware who received a Widener High School Leadership Award. Students are nominated by their high school principal or administrator rather than applying directly. Award recipients who enroll at Widener automatically receive the scholarship and join the Apogee Scholars Program managed by the Office of Student Engagement. The program recognizes regional high school juniors and seniors for leadership potential. Scholarship funds apply to tuition for full-time undergraduate day students during their first eight semesters at Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania.

The Presidential Service Corps Leadership Award provides $5,000 per academic year to invited Widener undergraduates in the Presidential Service Corps, a Bonner Leaders Program, in addition to other need-based aid and academic scholarships up to full tuition. Students identified in the top 10 percent of accepted students receive an invitation to submit a Leadership Application; finalists attend a selection process typically held in March. Members must maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA and complete 300 hours of community service annually, attend service leader meetings, support Widener service events, and represent the university positively. The award renews while PSC participation and service requirements are met.

The Widener Band Scholarship for Music provides $2,000 to $3,000 per year, renewable annually, to undergraduate students who audition for the athletic bands program. Applicants submit a Music Scholarship application, complete a short Zoom interview with the Director of Athletic Bands, email a YouTube link of a band performance, and provide a band director recommendation. Recipients are expected to participate in band and wind ensemble and take private lessons. Because Widener is NCAA Division III, athletic scholarships are not offered, but music talent awards support students in the marching and concert band program. The Army ROTC Campus-Based Scholarship at Widener provides full tuition including mandatory fees, $1,200 per year for books, and a $420 monthly tax-free stipend to qualified freshman, sophomore, and certain graduate-entry cadets in the Dauntless Battalion. Widener adds free basic double room and a Gold meal plan after other grants are applied. Applications go to the Department of Military Science by November 1 or April 1 of the semester before benefits begin. Minimum requirements include a 2.5 cumulative GPA, full-time enrollment, U.S. citizenship, passing the Army Physical Fitness Test, DoD medical qualification, and ability to commission before age 31. Awards are competitive among enrolled ROTC cadets.

The General John H. Tilelli Jr. Annual Endowed Leadership Scholarship provides one partial scholarship annually to a Widener student who is a member of the ROTC Dauntless Battalion, a Green-to-Gold program participant, or a veteran of the armed forces. Recipients must participate in university-sponsored activities or community service, have no record of indiscipline, and maintain a 3.0 academic GPA. The award honors military leadership and service commitment within Widener's ROTC community. Selection is administered through the Department of Military Science. The Widener University Faculty Scholarship is an endowed award funded primarily by faculty donations that recognizes outstanding academic achievement of undergraduates in and outside the classroom. Nominees are selected from each school and college during the junior year and receive funds applied toward tuition in the senior year. Multiple recipients are chosen annually across the College of Health and Human Services, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Nursing, School of Engineering, and School of Business Administration. Students cannot apply directly; departments nominate qualified juniors based on academic and co-curricular excellence. The award supports continuing Widener undergraduates completing their final year of study.
