Scholarships at Western Michigan University

Need-based scholarship of five hundred dollars for admitted Western Michigan University students who are current military members, veterans, or military dependents. There are no major or branch restrictions. Students must be admitted to WMU, complete the Scholarship Universe application between October and April, and provide proof of military status on the application. The award may be reapplied for annually while the student remains enrolled. Funds are disbursed through the financial aid office as part of the student's institutional scholarship portfolio alongside other WMU and endowed awards.

Full-time Western Michigan University doctoral candidates within one year of graduation who have attained candidacy may apply. You must have completed your committee approval, dissertation proposal, qualifying exams, and research tools, with superior academic achievement and no other paid graduate appointments at WMU. Fellowship amounts vary by cycle. Recipients receive a stipend for up to one year (two semesters and two sessions) plus tuition for one dissertation credit per semester or session. Apply through the Graduate College competitive fellowship process by the February deadline. The fellowship assists doctoral students with dissertation completion based on scholarly achievement and the quality of the proposed project.

Tuition scholarship supporting WMU undergraduates who lived some or all of their teenage years in foster care, named for three-time WMU alumnus Dr. John Seita. Offered only to fall semester admits between ages seventeen and twenty-five who qualify for the Educational Training Voucher or Michigan Fostering Futures Scholarship and are financial-aid eligible. Application to the Seita Scholars Program is separate from WMU admission and includes an interview, campus residency requirement, seminar participation, and program agreement. The scholarship renews each semester through degree completion when recipients file the FAFSA by March 1, live on campus, maintain satisfactory academic progress, and fulfill all program requirements.
